Full circle moments like this remind me why I chose to recruit for the clinical trial and drug development space?? Every morning, I wake up and take my temperature with my natural cycles thermometer. This class IIb medical device was the reason I was able to reclaim control of unbalanced hormones caused by taking the combined pill for almost 10 years. I was experiencing side effects that are sadly more common than not for women taking the pill, feeling anxious and nervous as to what my life would look like walking away from a medication I’d become so dependent on. By learning from the clients and candidates I work with day to day, I understood exactly what this thermometer had to go through for it to have been cleared for use in the real world. Shamelessly, I did have a nerdy full-circle moment when I saw ‘CE0123’ etched into the hard casing of the thermometer. Developments in clinical research are the reason why me and many others are able to seek alternative treatment methods over traditional OTCs. Without clinical trials, we would be unable to collect and analyse data to support and evolve our current understanding of different illnesses and the treatments that come with them. Is there a role for Virtual Medical Science Liaisons? One thing to note about this poll- this is asking if there is a SEPARATE role for solely virtual MSLs. Imagine this- a typical MSL team, with 1-3 virtual MSLs to supplement their activity. Almost 900 of you voted, some may have thought that the poll was asking if MSLs should be fully virtual. That may have skewed these results BUT- 2/3 of you still believe there IS a role for fully virtual MSLs.
