You can be the best mechanic in town. But if no one knows, you’re just a person in a garage. I used to think being good at my job would be enough. I believed that if I worked hard, people would notice. That I would get the recognition, the exciting project, the promotion. Spoiler: None of this happened. ?? Being great won’t get you seen. ?? Keeping quiet won’t lead to promo. ?? Expecting praise won’t get you jobs. So, I changed my approach. ?? I showcased my skills and stengths. ?? I shared my story and passion. ?? I highlighted my results. Guess what? It worked. Got promoted at adidas, got the dream job at Google, built and scaled a passion project from scratch. Don’t wait. No one is coming. Take action. Tell your story. I have a part in my happiness course about personal branding, because if you know who you are and what you want, you just need to ask and get it. Don’t be like the lonely mechanic. The world needs the talents that you only have! PS the picture is from the celebration dinner of a really big promotion ??

Being quiet sometimes means you're processing information, aiming to find the best solution.

My former Nike intern rang me up crying because she missed out on big role. She’d got to the final round. And the feedback was that she was ‘too quiet’. She was distraught. ????♀?Her response? ‘I need to change how I am for the next company!’ ???? My response? ‘Please don’t do that!’ And I told her a story I’d never told her before…. When we hired her as our intern at Nike, we hired her BECAUSE she was quiet! She was thoughtful, she was considered, she didn’t have to be the loudest voice at the table. And when she spoke she was articulate and she used her words carefully. We loved that! Moral of the story - Being ‘quiet’ is not a weakness. Some places will love it. Some places won’t see the value. But you don’t need to change your personality to fit in. Find the place where they value who you are - without changing. Anyone else been told that being ‘quiet’ is a bad thing? ????

I agree Nigel, it was an energising experience with SMT members to welcome the new Graduates of 2024 to QVC Japan and we are lucky to have new talent with fresh perspective join our business to ‘create our future’ together. During the ceremony, we all expressed our appreciation as each new member of our teams introduced themselves. And when it was our turn to say some words of encouragement, here is some of what I shared: “While I have no doubt you will find QVC to be one of the most unique and interesting places to work. Pretty much everything here will be new to all of you so learning will of course come naturally. If there are some things I could say to you as you embark on your journey with us… I would encourage you to demonstrate a growth mindset. Approaching each new challenge as a chance to grow. Corporate life is never short of challenges but know that you are not alone in overcoming these challenges 1 by 1 and help is only one question away from you to get the support you need. Take time to get to know the business. Get to know your team, your trainers and partners in other functions and set yourself goals and align with your leaders. And consider what areas to focus on to become a leader of self so you can grow to realise your personal best and beyond. Be Brave. Ask questions. I am still asking questions after 17 years as this business continues to evolve and we are always looking for new ways to Enrich Life’s Every Day Moments, through the experiences we create, the connections we make, and the products we curate. There is a Japanese Proverb which says ‘Nanakorobi Yaoki’. ‘Fall seven times, get up eight’. This is around demonstrating resilience, diligence and persistence, however many setbacks you face, never give up and always keep trying. And lastly, a quote from a Japanese psychiatrist and writer Shigeta Saito which always resonates with me when I think about a growth mindset and allowing yourself the freedom to try and learn. 人生に失敗がないと、人生を失敗する Romanization: Jinsei ni shippai ga nai to, jinsei o shippai suru Literally: “If you have no failure in life, you will fail in life.” Meaning: If you want to succeed in life, you must learn from your failures. Thank you for choosing to join our team.”
Delighted to welcome another strong batch of graduate talent at our QVC Japan offices… We look forward to working with you all!? ? 入社おめでとうございます。これから皆さんと一緒に働ける事を嬉しく思います。 #qvcjapan #graduaterecruiting #qurateretailgroup?

Something happened to me when we said goodbye to my oldest son for 2 years. I was apprehensive to share this but if it helps one person it will be worth it. And this is solely my experience but the principle is universal. At any point during the preparation and even up until saying goodbye I could have said, “Don’t go. Stay home. I’m going to miss you too much.” But I never did because that would have been selfish and self serving. He had decided to go serve the people of Brazil, learn Portuguese, and do extremely hard and scary things for 2 years. He will be changed forever through this experience. And so will I. This kind of change can only happen by doing very hard things. There is no short cut or readers digest version. If you want to become something more than you currently are. If you want to earn a place on stage. If you want to get in better shape. If you want to start a business. If you want anything. You have to do uncomfortable and hard things. As you do hard things over time it becomes easier. Not because that hard thing is necessarily easier. It’s because you have done it before and have the confidence you can do it again and again and again. Nike said it best. Just Do It. Over and over again. Embrace the hard. #momentum #hardthings #work

I never thought I would have an opportunity like this, but CareerLunch made it come true. I already spoke about this Start-up, but it is worth mentioning again. Coming from Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, I never thought I could reach out to HR in companies such as Red Bull or HUGO BOSS . And yet, here we are. So if you have the opportunity, being in Brazil, abroad or in Switzerland, where I currently am, just check CareerLunch's website. You get: ? the current opportunities ? if the culture matches ? an insider perspective of what is the day-to-day in the company ? and the opportunity to network in a lovely environment And of course, I can't thank enough for the lovely conversation I just had. Faith in the mission ?? PS: How memorable are the Redbull campaigns? I still remember a lot of those when I actually had a TV! "Redbull te dá asas!". #careerlunch #redbull #networking #communications #marketing

As John Donahoe departs Nike, with a new incoming CEO, I think it's an excellent opportunity to see an exceptional example of internal progression. Elliott Hill started with Nike as an Intern, and through his career has successfully climbed every level of the company, to now the incoming CEO of the business. While external hires and new ideas can add a lot of value, for some organisations, someone who's worked their way up from the shop floor to the top job is exactly what is needed to lead. And it's an invaluable example to employees at all levels that progression is possible, and can hugely help with retention and talent attraction. I'll be interested to see more about Elliott's strategy for Nike; there's high hopes as evidenced by the 8% jump in the share price. Do you know any other examples of CEOs working their way up the company throughout their careers? When do you feel it's best to progress with an internal executive, rather than bringing in new ideas externally?

The journey of Nike’s CEO is a great example of how a company invests in its people and how self belief plays a key role. As a college student studying marketing, I often struggle with imposter syndrome. It's a tough cycle of doubt, but seeing stories of growth like this is truly inspiring. It’s a reminder that when you believe in yourself and your work reflects that confidence, others will recognize it too. ?????? #Growth #Affirmation
