Part of me thinks this is a good idea, if you're travelling for business and you need to get some shut eye, or work done before you land, you need the minimum of distractions. The other part of me (the Dad part) thinks it is entirely unfair. Whilst we take flying for granted, in small children the changes in pressure and a sense of the unknown can be very alarming for children, even physically uncomfortable. I recall flying with my two to Sydney 4 years ago, my kids were 5 and 2, and they were angels. Incredibly well behaved, but on the long Dubai to Sydney leg, towards the end they were getting restless and needed to move about the cabin - on the A-380, this wasn't an issue. Even still, there was still one broadsheet reading elderly gentleman who felt the need to sigh and tut every time my children walked by. Perhaps we forget we were kids once ourselves. Children are curious, inquisitive and full of energy. On a long flight and an enclosed space, it's inevitable that they'll get restless - ask any parent who has ever asked their child to "sit still, and be quiet for 5 minutes..." Thoughts? Would you actively select a seat, away from children if you could? #fcbt #flightcentre #Emirates #kidsonaplane #flyingwithkids https://lnkd.in/gF5dmpM
Why not have adult only flights!? There has to be a market for this!
Is there a positive thread? Could seating children is close proximity create some entertainment during the flight?
I guess in 2019 we need to find extreme solutions every time "life happens". We can not be inconvenienced no matter what.
This is simply part of airline traveling. I try to book early morning flights during the week as they tend to be mostly adult passengers. However, if there are children on the flight, there isn't t anything I can do about it. If they are crying or throwing a fit I usually just feel bad for the parents... very little they can do about it most of the time. I would rather sit next to a fussy child than an adult who hasn't showered or has bathed in their perfume/cologne.
Personally I hate the people that recline their seats more. When my son had to sit in his car seat in his own seat one gentleman was pissed off because his seat wouldn’t fully recline and would keep slamming it back almost catching my sons feet. After the flight attendant stopped him and threatened him I made sure he kicked it for the rest of the flight.
But Ken would they let you join in?
I think this is really smart. Those that want to avoid children have the opportunity. Even if the airline makes it more expensive to sit at least 5 rows away, why not charge for a premium.? the comments are hilarious - flag a snorer, a smelly person, someone who puts their feet between the chairs, someone who gets up a zillion times... the list goes on
I find it interesting there are comments about being tolerant/fair. If I can choose to NOT sit near children, I would. That doesn't make me intolerant that makes me smart. I actually think it would be a great idea for kids with parents to sit in a particular area of the plane as a consideration to other travelers. When my daughter was younger, that would have been a great option.?
