?? More than half of professional and trade associations lack a long-term strategy that integrates both offline and online communication channels. Does your association have one? ??♂? Associations vary greatly in their level of digitalisation. We conducted a small-scale survey of 13 larger Dutch industry and professional associations. The results show that just over half of these associations do not have a long-term strategy (>3 years) that includes a mix of offline and online channels. ?? Associations primarily struggle with increasing member engagement. They also want to know how to better share the knowledge available within the association. ?? At the same time, we increasingly see associations successfully using digital tools to facilitate digital communication, member interaction, and service delivery in practice. ?? Want to know more? The association world is changing. (and it's not slowing down) Not in the flashy, headline-grabbing way. But in the quiet moments where leaders dare to try something new. Where communities form around shared challenges. Where someone asks "what if we did this differently?" Ever had a sponsor go rogue? It usually starts like this: They skip the standard booth at your event. Instead, they rent a space nearby and create their own experience. No competition for attention. No blending in with the crowd. Just their brand, their message, their moment. And it works. This isn't just about losing a booth sale, it's a wake-up call. Members and sponsors want something different. Something more. And associations need to adapt. The old playbook (the one that served us well for decades) isn't cutting it anymore. Members want more than just membership. Sponsors want deeper engagement. Everyone's raising the bar. And that's exactly why it's such an exciting time to be in associations. Because as these challenges push us to evolve, we're discovering better ways to connect, to serve, to make an impact. The opportunities are there, if you know where to look. That's Association Chat's sweet spot. We bring together the sharpest minds in the industry to share what's working, what's next, and how to stay ahead of the curve. Member engagement throughout the year - Looks familiar? ?? Associations traditionally connect their members only a few days a year, through physical events such as conferences. In this traditional “Connection 1.0” engagement model, an association facilitates knowledge sharing and connection only for those who are physically present at the event. If you are not in attendance, you cannot fully benefit from your membership, missing out on access to the knowledge and connections with other members. For the rest of the year, many associations facilitate little to no ongoing interaction between members, mainly communicating top-down from the association to the members, often via email. This lack of continuous interaction leads to a dilution of member engagement. ?? Facilitatiing connection and knowledge sharing is a major value proposition of professional associations. How are you connecting and engaging your members year-round? ?? The way associations connect their members is evolving. Read more: https://buff.ly/4eOoyGd
