?? Yesterday I attended my first forum since I moved to Melbourne! The Women in Intelligence Forum, hosted by #Recordedfuture, a leading intelligence company that helps organizations uncover and mitigate cyber threats, was an eye opener for me! The discussions were inspiring and forward-looking, focusing on the growing influence of women in cybersecurity. Some key takeaways: ? Women are increasingly recognized as leaders in cyber, with research showing women excel in 17 of 19 leadership competencies, including resilience, collaboration, and problem-solving. ? AI is reshaping the cybersecurity landscape, and as Maggie Coleman mentioned, it’s amplifying threats but also unlocking new defensive possibilities, like AI-driven penetration testing. In a super interesting panel attended by @Jennifer Stockwell, Skye Wu, and @Elisa S., it was discussed that as mentors and leaders, we have the opportunity to elevate the next generation. Together, we can continue building an inclusive future in cybersecurity where diverse perspectives thrive. ?? Grateful and Thrilled to Attend Black Hat USA 2024 in Las Vegas! ?? This year, I had the incredible opportunity to attend Black Hat USA 2024 as one of the 300 scholarship recipients for the events on the 7th and 8th of August. I cannot express enough how thankful I am to Black Hat for this unique experience. From insightful keynotes to hands-on workshops, every moment was packed with learning and networking with some of the brightest minds in cybersecurity. One of the highlights was the Fireside Chat with Moxie Marlinspike, the founder of Signal. Moxie shared the fascinating story behind the creation of Signal, emphasizing that the project began at a security conference much like this one. His message was clear and inspiring: you don’t need a huge team to build something impactful. With a solid understanding of programming, grounded in first-principles thinking, and a spark of creativity, you can create a global application. It was a powerful reminder that innovation often starts small but can achieve extraordinary reach. My schedule also included: ° The Metasploit Framework workshop with Spencer McIntyre from Rapid7, where we explored practical exploitation techniques—an invaluable session for anyone serious about penetration testing. ° An engaging briefing on Quantum Security: Myths, Facts, and Realities, which provided a deep dive into the potential and challenges of quantum technologies in cybersecurity and busted quite a few myths around it. ° The event concluded with the Locknote: Conclusions & Key Takeaways, featuring a panel of industry leaders like Jeff Moss. It was a fitting wrap-up that tied together all the knowledge and insights gained over the two days. Being at Black Hat not only enriched my technical knowledge but also connected me with a community that’s passionate about pushing the boundaries of cybersecurity. I’m inspired to apply what I’ve learned and continue contributing to the field.Thank you, BlackHat for making this possible. Perseverance Pays Off: My Journey in Cybersecurity As I've been working through my cybersecurity study path with CyberSafe Foundation I faced a challenging lab that had me stuck for over 4 hours. Despite numerous failed attempts, I was determined to find the solution myself to sharpen my critical thinking skills. After a long and draining session, I started to feel discouraged. However, that changed when I stumbled upon a video of my partner and I being recognized as the second-prize winners for the innovation showcase village at SMCON2023, organized by silicon, Jungo, and UN 2.0 | United Nations This recognition reminded me that I am a winner, and that success takes time and persistence. In fact, I've realized that my previous "failures" have actually made me an expert in problem-solving and perseverance. I am not a failure - I just need to rest and try again at dawn.
