Technician Spotlight: Phil O. Lead Diesel Technician- Caledonia, WI I started my journey by building hot rods with my buddy in the garage. What began as a fun hobby led me to pursue my passion at UTI, where I earned my Automotive and Diesel degree. After spending years in the automotive world, I found my way into a Kenworth shop and have been working in the diesel industry ever since. What I love about working at Mater Fleet is the culture of teamwork. It's inspiring to see upper management, from our Tractor Manager to the President, rolling up their sleeves and getting involved directly in the work—whether it's under the trucks or moving parts. To new employees: Be patient. Our work involves a learning curve because we’re not brand-specific. We work on all makes and models, and that variety can be challenging but rewarding. Looking ahead, my goal is to lead a shop or department within this industry in the next five years. I'm excited about the future and the opportunities ahead! #DieselTech #CareerJourney #HeavyDutyTrucks #Teamwork #FutureGoals

What a compelling story! It truly highlights the invaluable nature of experience. In many ways, it's like a seasoned chef who knows exactly which ingredients to add to perfect a dish, while a novice might follow the recipe but miss the nuances. Expertise can be taught, but experience is earned through years of dedication and learning from countless situations. This reminds us that sometimes the simplest solutions come from the deepest wells of knowledge. #ValueOfExperience #WisdomInAction #ProfessionalGrowth

The 21st century Female Mechanic????♂??? As an electric vehicle technician, I have a passion for repairing eco-friendly vehicles. Recently, I had the opportunity to fix an AC issue in an electric vehicle, and it was an enlightening experience. The owner was frustrated with the AC system not working, and I was determined to find the problem. After thorough assessment, I discovered a damaged AC hose that was leaking refrigerant. I carefully disassembled the components and replaced the worn-out hose with a new one designed for electric vehicles. Attention to detail was crucial to ensure secure connections and prevent leaks. After reassembling the system, I balanced and recharged the refrigerant, optimizing the AC system's performance. When I powered on the AC, cool air filled the cabin, bringing relief to the owner and a sense of satisfaction to both of us. As a technician, I take pride in enhancing the driving experience for electric vehicle owners and ensuring their comfort on the road. Each repair is an opportunity for me to showcase my expertise and dedication to customer satisfaction. So, with my tools in hand, I continue to embrace the challenges that come my way, eager to provide exceptional service and keep electric vehicles running smoothly. #BelsdeMechanic #My Journey into Engineering

????Spotlight Finalist: Christopher Heil, Working Technician, Diesel Category, TA Truck Service, Tonopah, AZ Christopher Heil is an ASE - National Institute for Automotive Service Excellence-certified medium heavy-duty truck technician who services trucks with TA Truck Service both in the bay and on the side of the road. Christopher is a US Army veteran working towards achieving ASE Master Technician status. What Christopher likes about being a technician: Christopher says, “I work on the big trucks, the 18-wheelers, to keep America moving. I work both in the bay and on the side of the road. We keep America rolling by repairing heavy-duty trucks so they can deliver their loads on time. [Trucks deliver] most everything consumers use, even the parts we use to repair these trucks. Food, furniture, medical supplies–you name it. It most likely arrived or was transported by truck at one point. Being a professional technician and repairing and properly maintaining these units benefits everyone by delivering goods on time and protecting the environment, especially with the ever-advancing after-treatment systems on these trucks. With all the electronics, in addition to the mechanical aspect and the air delivery systems, technicians must stay up to date to meet the needs of the drivers of these units. Big rigs run 24V7V365, and so do technicians. Whether it is in the bay or on the side of the road, we work together with the drivers to keep America rolling.” Why Christopher was nominated: Christopher was nominated by a colleague at TA Truck Center. The nominator writes, “His drive and passion for what he does is contagious when taking care of these big rigs, making the customers happy, and keeping our roads safer one semi-truck at a time. He is personable with his coworkers, extremely generous with his time, and always willing to lend a helping hand to any guest or coworker. Honestly, I can't say enough about him or his character. It truly is second to none, and I have the pleasure of working with and learning from him every shift, and I am very grateful. Read More: TechForce.org/TechsRock

?? The month of May is coming to an end!! Here's our monthly insight at Stirling Cryogenics; Please meet Robin de la Combé, Group Lead Assembly Team. Enjoy reading! ?? What is your role at Stirling and tell us more about your job? Robin: "As a mechanic I build cryogenerators and systems, from A to Z. Recently, I took on a new position as Lead Mechanic, providing work for the team of mechanics. I make sure projects are well planned and distributed among all mechanics. As a collaborative foreman, I work with the team and solve problems when they arise." ?? What does an average workday at Stirling look like? Robin: "For me, an average day consists of assembling parts and assembling complete machines. I also extensively test Stirling machines and systems. If there are problems or if the desired performance is not achieved, a solution is sought in consultation with my colleagues. All tests are documented for future reference. There are different systems and every customer has a different application or requirement. With each project, I learn new things and the work remains interesting." ?? What do you like the most about your job? Robin: "I have been working at Stirling for 4.5 years and really enjoy the variety of work. I’m in close contact with my immediate colleagues in the workplace and warehouse but also the Planning, Service and Engineering department. We get along very well. This and the fact that we operate in a fairly unique industry are reasons for me to stay with Stiriling." ??Looking 5 years ahead of time... Robin: "In 5 years’ time I believe that I will still be working at Stirling in the same role. My ambition is to keep it as it is now, I have enough challenges in my current position. I continue to pursue the mechanic profession and there are always new products in which I find my challenge." ?? On a personal note, what are your hobbies? Robin: "I love going out for diner, going to the movies, hiking and going on holidays or weekends away. I spend a lot of time with my family. My adolescent son of 13 often gets me into action with, for instance, a game of football or table tennis. But I also enjoy binge-watching." ?? Any guilty pleasures to share? Robin: "With my son I like to go shopping in the city, afterwards we stop at Kentucky Fried Chicken to eat a bucket of chicken." ?? Thank you for sharing your thoughts Robin! ?? #StirlingCryogenics #MeetTheTeam #workingforStirling #teamwork #cryogenerator #70YearsInBusiness

This is Mark Cullen receiving his 5 year long service award from his supervisor Gary Wolff and eagerly cheered on by HGV mechanics Duncan, Jerry, Ollie and Derek. While Mark is celebrating his 5 year anniversary, he has been familiar with the Gregory Group for much longer having joined the team 21 years ago. A brief stint elsewhere, he then returned to the team in 2019. We asked him about his career and here is what he said: How did your career begin? I wanted to be an electrician but an opportunity to become a mechanic came along. I started with cars and moved on to static plant, and then HGVs. Thankfully I really enjoy my job so I think it was the right career for me! What do you enjoy about working at Gregory Group? The people I work with. From colleagues in the workshop to the admin team next door - we are a like-minded bunch who enjoy our working life. What changes have you seen during your time? The greatest change is the modernisation of vehicles, specifically the addition of electric vehicles. With the future of HVO and possibly full electric, I am sure I will see more changes before my retirement. With a 40 year history as a mechanic, what advice would you give to anyone else considering this as a career? Don't do it if you don't like getting dirty! But if you don't mind that, go for it. It's an opportunity to grow from car mechanic to HGV. Plus you get to use bigger hammers! #EmployeeSpotlight #OurPeople #WorkAnniversaries #DeliveringWinners
