Happy Pentecost. This is Kathleen and I am happy to announce that set construction is complete. We worked for many weeks on the construction donating our time. The materials cost $3,658 coming in barely below budget. The art department made really good decisions in finding the most cost effective materials while still creating a wonderful effect. We knew we were running out of money for the set, so we put the rest of the money in an envelope and said when it's gone it's gone. We were happy to peek in the envelope and see a couple $20 bills remaining. We used thin set concrete on the floor, added concrete dye then used a paint brush to texture the concrete. After it dried we used a bag of play sand to give it a weathered and consistent look. As you can see, it turned out fabulous! We are also working on having zoom table read throughs with Aidan Jones, Lovey Maher and Kate, our pilot actors ensuring all are ready next month for shooting the pilot. We are still shy $1035 to finish production so if you are able, please contribute. We will use the pilot to build a movement around the movie and in November when the pilot is released, you will have an opportunity to invest in the movie with a chance to see a good return on investment. But until then we are relying on your generosity to get the pilot produced and distributed. We are 20% away from our final goal but are in RED ALERT for $1035 to finish production. My favorite day building the set was the day that we framed the walls. Framing goes up really fast and it is very rewarding to see the progress. We all were able to work on the framing as the young children were able to lay out the boards and the middle children were able to screw the frames together. That was a really fun day and we were all filled with enthusiastic energy as we worked on the beginnings of the Fabiola prison set. Another thing about this day that was fun was that we had the building to ourselves and it was already quite messy because the "Water House", (the nickname we gave the building due to the little ones' mispronunciation of?Water Oz) was being remodeled. It was easy to feel at home in the building that was less than put together and only a few construction workers were there at any given time. The worst day was when we tore down the set. It took us three months to build and three hours to disassemble. The building had other uses and we knew that we would not be able to use it as a studio on a long term basis. The space was generously donated to the project by Ryan Uhlenkott but it would eventually be used as the office building for Advanced Welding and Steel. Having the funds to rent a space will ensure that no time will be wasted in building sets and disassembling. We can use time and money much more efficiently if we can recostume existing sets. ??For this basement transformation, we were a team of 2 that managed to get the clearing the client wanted in less than 3?? hours?. It was pretty straightforward as far as getting everything sorted by categories so the client could truly see everything for the first time in years as opposed to it all being in a giant pile. The ultimate goal was to declutter the space enough so the client could begin the process of refinishing the space. Could she have done it without our help? Possibly...the rest of her house was very well organized and uncluttered but she just allowed the basement to get too cluttered and couldn't visual where to start peeling back the proverbial layers. Once we were there, though, it was much easier for her to make decisions about what would stay vs. get donated.
