On Saturday, August 24th, our crew working at Yale New Haven Health’s St Raphael Campus rigged and installed two pre-fabricated equipment skids that will become the entirety of the hydronic heating equipment plant for the new McGivney and Sherman Buildings being built on the campus. The installation represents the completion of a year-long effort by our VDC, operations, engineering, and fabrication teams. The first skid includes 3 shell and tube heat exchangers, 2 steam control valve stations, complete condensate return piping, and a condensate receiver pump. The second skid holds 4 heating hot water pumps, 2 air separators, 2 expansions tanks, and is fully spring isolated to the building structure. Both skids have been designed and fabricated upfront with Professional Engineer’s stamp to be compliant with all structural, vibration isolation, thermal expansion, and seismic engineering requirements. In doing so, our team has shifted 4-6 months of work off of the project site to meet the demands of this fast-moving project, all while keeping resources to a minimum onsite, reducing material handling, material waste and safety concerns. ?
