With nearly 30 staff members over two office locations, it can be hard to get all of DER in one physical location. But yesterday, we were lucky to assemble nearly everyone for an in-person gathering! Of course, it wouldn’t be a DER get-together without a site visit so we began our day highlighting DER’s Regional Restoration Partnerships Program by checking out some sites with the Merrimack Restoration Partnership. Thank you to our partners that joined us! After that, we settled down to learn and discuss each program’s priorities for the next year. As DER celebrates 15 years as a Division, we look forward to taking what was learned and applying it to the next 15 years and more.

President and CEO of Women's Affordable Housing Network (recovering Tax Partner in Affordable Housing industry)
What inspired me to work in the affordable housing industry? Can't wait to hear from our panelists Nov 18th in the Windy City! Two pivotal experiences shaped my path: Volunteering for @Junior Achievement each year in Charlotte, NC. I learned firsthand about food insecurity, financial struggle, and unsafe neighborhoods. I’ll never forget asking the children what they were dressing up as for Halloween—one little boy burst into tears because his mom couldn’t afford a costume, and none of the students trick-or-treated in their own neighborhood.? (Happy to report my team at PwC bought the entire class costumes.) Poverty Simulation hosted for employees by PwC opened my eyes to the uphill battle faced by those financially behind. Simple things like having direct deposit versus riding a bus to a check-cashing agency, or the dilemma of sick children keeping a parent from work translating to no pay for that day (no paid PTO), reminded me how fragile financial stability can be. These experiences gave me a deep sense of purpose—to help ensure that everyone has access to safe, affordable housing and the opportunity to live in thriving communities. It’s about creating security, opportunity, and dignity for all. #AffordableHousing

It's inspiring to see business owners dedicating their time to learning and evolving together. It requires openness, honesty, and transparency, which means being vulnerable enough to acknowledge weaknesses or blind spots and being receptive to others' input for personal growth.
Living it up with PACE 48 in Austin, TX! ?? Making memories, seizing opportunities, and reaching new heights together. Thank you Justice Pest Services for hosting! The Grow Group

This is why building and strengthening Community Capacity should be at the forefront of economic development.
Erie, Pennsylvania-Session 6 of the ARC Leadership Institute was incredible. Building Community Capacity was our session focus. Imagine for a moment your town with no social infrastructure. No schools, no churches, no recreation, no parks, no grocery stores, no restaurants, no Main Street or small businesses, no museums, no libraries, no places where people gather socially and interact. Would you want to live there without those things? Now think, are you a community member that makes investments in those entities whether through spending your hard earned money there, collaboration in community service, volunteerism, philanthropy, or just being a good, active citizen? Building and Sustaining Community Capacity is HARD WORK! Thankful for another week of collaborating with world changers across the 13 Appalachian States. These people are amazing human beings, doing amazing work in their states. Though our year together is coming to an end, the impact this group will make across Appalachia is just beginning! To truly diversify your workforce, you must diversify your recruiting lens.
Thrilled to be part of meaningful journeys like Jeorgina's, who found her perfect fit as the new receptionist at the Community Foundation of Greater Des Moines. Watching her exceed expectations is why we love what we do at Infinite Resources. Gratitude to our amazing partners, like the Community Foundation, for entrusting us with these impactful connections. Together, we're building not just careers, but stories of success and fulfillment.
