There are not many scenarios that don't result in some type of environmental catastrophe as a result of Arctic warfare.

Greenland isn't just ice and history; it's the cornerstone of global power struggles with lessons for today. Could the U.S. repeat the past to secure its future? ?? The article delves into the historical, geopolitical, and environmental complexities of Greenland's significance to the U.S., from World War II-era military strategy to modern-day rare earth resource competitions. It argues for a partnership-based approach that respects Greenland's sovereignty while addressing critical U.S. strategic needs. #Greenland #Geopolitics #RareEarth #USPolicy #ArcticSecurity #ClimateChallenges Read the full article on Rare Earth Exchanges: https://lnkd.in/gNrvfq2b

Another highlight of the 16th SE Florida Regional Climate Summit was summaries of many really interesting studies that provide the data upon which actual resilience projects are based, three of which are described below. The top figure shows an analysis of opportunities for nature-based restoration solutions in Biscayne Bay conducted by Natrx and presented by Nature Conservancy Senior Policy Advisor Janet Bowman. This information can be used to focus particular efforts where they are most likely to be successful. The second figure demonstrates the carbon exchange in submerged and coastal habitats, used by University of Florida Assistant Professor Ashley Smyth in identifying opportunities and challenges for storage of coastal blue carbon. The third figure presents the locations along US. Highway 1 being studied by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers for shoreline stabilization as presented by Project Manager William Aley, who described pre-selection assumptions (will not touch water) and challenges (narrow and exposed right of way) leading to a complex study.

"promised to work “on behalf of our nation and planet, its people, and all its species, for the better future we hold within our sight.” It is close to the regeneration statement of Fridays For Future groups. This is what promised the new members of the American Climate Corps launched recently, when they officially became its members. https://lnkd.in/erX7i_kJ Climate action is a good way to fight climate anxiety and the corps give this possibility. But except it, the fate of the corps depends on us. Biden want that 300,000 people will participate by 2030. Trump want to cancel it. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez want 1.5 million peoole will participate. What it will be? It depends largely on how much people will be interested in joining. The more people will join it, the more chances it will expand. If you are an american citizen you can join it here: https://www.acc.gov/ Like/Comment/Repost

DWR is proud of our partnership with the?Center for Western Weather and Water Extremes at UC San Diego’s Scripps Institution of Oceanography, NOAA: National Oceanic & Atmospheric Administration and the U.S. Airforce to improve our forecasts through the?Atmospheric River Reconnaissance?program. Atmospheric rivers?deliver the bulk of rain and snow to California every winter and understanding these storms and improving our forecasts allow California to better prepare for flooding and manage our resources more efficiently. This season, AR Recon flights by the?U.S. Air Force Reserve 53rd Weather Reconnaissance Squadron?and?NOAA will reach farther into the Pacific, enabling earlier tracking of atmospheric rivers. Federal resilience projects and aid—just like climate change impacts—are disproportionately distributed across the nation. Due to an outdated mandate, the government tends to prioritize interventions in more wealthy communities because the overall economic benefit is greater. This system tends to leave underserved areas facing the same environmental threats, financially and many times, physically stranded. ? As more Americans and ecosystems become exposed to natural risks, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers is reexamining their project evaluation process to be able to protect more land and people. The Water Institute recently organized an Engineering With Nature Technical Review Summit in Washington D.C. to explore their options and limitations under the current review system. ? Hear what the Corps found and how they are hoping to evolve, from the Institute's CEO Beaux Jones: https://lnkd.in/g2W92ESm??????

Reflecting on Remembrance and Reconciliation During the Second World War Anniversary This week, as we observe the Time of Remembrance and Reconciliation, we at Afkar Collective pause to honor the memory of the millions who lost their lives during the Second World War. This period offers a poignant opportunity to reflect on the profound impacts of conflict—not only those of the past but also those ongoing, including in regions such as Palestine and other areas facing turmoil today. As we remember the anguish of the past, it becomes crucial to understand the continuous struggles faced by many communities worldwide and recognize the urgent need for peace-building and reconciliation in these regions. Now, more than ever, we are reminded of the lessons of history and the devastation that arises from conflict, emphasizing our responsibility to advocate for dialogue and understanding. At Afkar Collective, we are committed to supporting efforts that promote peace and help mitigate conflict through education, dialogue, and cooperative initiatives. We stand in solidarity with all peacemakers and those suffering from conflicts around the globe, striving toward a future where such tragedies are a thing of the past. This week, let us not only remember those who suffered from historical conflicts but also focus on contemporary issues that require urgent humanitarian and diplomatic efforts. It is a call to action for all of us to work towards a world where peace prevails, and history’s dark chapters are not repeated
