The afternoon panelists at the @North East Space Conference Space North East England highlighted the importance of motivating the younger generation in response to a question by Joanne R. The key takeaways which resonated well with me 1. let the non-availability of the best infrastructure/labs in schools and colleges not deter us. Students must be able to demonstrate creativity using readily available materials. Thanks J B Young from Lockheed Martin for this comment 2. Provide the school teachers opportunities and CPD time to access the wealth of resources created by ESA- David Parker 3. Lets not focus only on the Space based specialisations but the generic scientific and engineering building blocks which will provide the transferable skills for the Space sector - Richard Gibbs 4. Enhance ability to learn, unlearn and relearn- Lee Jackson Dr. Sharon Grant, Julia Austin, Sarah Brown, Gary Thompson- you will recognise that these are not very dissimilar to the ideas we discussed about skills enhancement for digital transformation in manufacturing at Nissan. Elaine Scott Nafeesa Dajda Multi-disciplinary problem based learning is key to engage today's children to be tomorrow's problem solvers. Dr. Tithi Sengupta Chaudhuri

We tend not to boast about awards. Maybe this award of Dr. Kirton’s is something that should be shared more often, as it relates to KAI. In 1991, Michael Kirton was awarded an honorary Doctorate of Science (DSc) by Her Royal Highness, Princess Royal (Princess Anne), on behalf of the Council of Academic Awards in the UK for the development of Adaption-Innovation (A-I) theory, and KAI. This picture is of Dr. Kirton receiving his award. Wow! What an amazing lifetime achievement! This picture simply speaks to the rigor of research and development going into KAI, and how Dr. Kirton's work has been recognized as a contribution to our society. Dr. Michael Kirton developed A-I theory, and later the KAI, through about 14 years of research, beginning in the early 1960’s. It is still used around the world by notable Fortune 500 companies, elite military personnel, and well-respected academics. The Center for Cooperative Problem Solving, at Virginia Tech , and the KAI Foundation continue to work closely together to advance Dr. Kirton’s work through research, teaching, and building a community of KAI practitioners who maintain Dr. Kirton’s high standards of ethical use of the KAI. #adaption #innovation #problemsolving #leadership #cognitivediversity #scienceofteams

The Oppenheimer movie has the potential to win big at the Oscars, but what do you know about his leadership skills? After watching Oppenheimer on the flight to Barcelona I have been intrigued by his personality, and how he was treated after the mission of ending the war were accomplished. This article The Wall Street Journal but the spotlight on key leadership skills he possessed and what he lacked. ?? When being put in charge for one of the most important projects in US history he had no previous management experience but compensated with three crucial leadership skills 1?? His ability to identify the required team members and put together a stellar team of specialists, and eliminate any obstacle that prevented them from accepting. 2?? His communication skills where he as a generalist picked up all details from specialists and then put them in plain English before communicating to the broader team 3?? His collaboration skills, and courage to set up a highly collaborative structure, without silos, and being able to interact with a highly compartmentalist military structure. ??These learnings are valuable for any leader in charge of a big mission or a major transformation. #Leadership #PersonalDevelopment #Oppenheimer #Oscars

Driving innovation is dynamic- running too fast without a well-thought out plan (serves as guardrails) can lead to chaos, play it too safe and your team becomes stagnant. One fact I feel is true, was my favorite quote I saw when visiting the Smithsonian Institution Air and Space museum today in #WashingtonDC , “if everything seems under control, your just not going fast enough”. We must encourage our teams that failure is an important learning mechanism in the #designthinking process. Measure and sunset those projects not hitting metrics and pivot to the next. It’s tempting to believe that we are at the pinnacle of human history… But many scholars claim that we are likely still quite early on in humanity as a function of total human lives. While nobody knows the future… There will probably be many, many billions of people who succeed us in the coming generations. Which means that the decisions we make now around things like AI will set the trajectory for the rest of humankind. We think of ourselves as modern, but people in the year 3451 will think of us as the ancients… So I think we have a lot of responsibility in this present moment to do what we can to shape the future that our posterity will inhabit.
