It's getting to that time of year again where we make our houses warm, cosy, homely... a perfect environment for some small, furry friends to sneak into. ????
When mice enter homes, they are just looking for warmth and food. It's important to keep mice out of your home for health reasons, but there is no need to exterminate them. Mouse traps are cruel, even the "humane" ones as they can still hurt mice when the doors snap closed! Luckily there are plenty of humane preventative measures you can take to avoid them coming in altogether. If they can't get in, you don't have to hurt them!
1.?Block off all entrances!
Mice can fit through holes as small as a 10p coin, so plug any that lead into your house! You can do this with materials such as steel wool instead of filling the holes in, as mice can't chew through metal.
2.??Take away their food!
The mice may have entered your home because it is a good food source. If all food is locked away and sealed in airtight containers, nothing will tempt the mice inside.
3.??Keep it clean and tidy!
There is nothing that mice love more than a dirty, messy home, so don't provide them with one! Sweep up crumbs, wash your dirty plates before you go to bed, and tidy away any clutter so that the mice can't hide in it.
Finding humane solutions to human/animal conflict issues only yields positive effects. It shows compassion and respect to every species, is better for the environment, is more cost-effective, and can help to make scientific advancements towards a more equal world.????
