?? In healthcare, accessibility often trails behind advancements, limiting over a billion people with disabilities. The journey through physical and digital barriers in health settings reveals considerable gaps and that means real impact for people. ?? Innovations like voice-assisted technology and AI-driven tools are carving paths for a more inclusive future. By integrating accessibility from the design and strategy phases, we’re not just enhancing care but embracing empathy and empowering people to determine their individual health journeys. ?? Let’s keep advocating for seamless and inclusive healthcare experiences. A truly accessible future is possible. #HealthcareInclusion #AccessibilityDesign #InclusiveHealthcare #DigitalHealth #InclusiveDesign

Hospitals, clinics, and healthcare-related spaces often overlook universal design. Most are rarely built with accessibility as a foundation. When systems treat accessibility as an afterthought, it reinforces exclusion everywhere, including in corporate settings. For example, Inaccessible seating at networking events mirrors the lack of accessible exam tables in clinics, where wheelchair users cannot easily transfer. The invisible fatigue and physical strain that disabled individuals endure in spaces not designed for their needs—such as a lack of seating or inaccessible setups—reflects how #healthcare often overlooks the daily challenges of navigating an inaccessible world. The assumption that disabled individuals should “cope” highlights a culture where #accommodations are treated as an afterthought rather than a priority! Societal norms, rooted in ableism and reinforced by the medical model, create barriers for #disabled individuals in #professional and everyday spaces. By listening, learning, and including disabled voices in the design of systems, policies, and conversations, we can begin to build truly inclusive environments. #Accessibility isn’t an afterthought—it’s a shared responsibility that benefits everyone.

The #HLTHUSA conference was a whirlwind 3+ days.?It was exciting to meet with, and learn from, a diverse group of healthcare entrepreneurs and leaders. Here are a few themes that inspired me: 1. Universal Design: “Build it with us, not for us!” Conchita Hernandez’s message about the need for companies to engage people with disabilities in the innovation process resonated with me. Universal design benefits everyone. It’s shocking that 90% of websites are still inaccessible to users relying on assistive tech. At Conifer, we’ve seen a rise in clients embracing inclusivity in their innovation work, which is great, but clearly just the beginning. #UniversalDesign #InclusiveInnovation #AccessibilityMatters 2. Women’s Health: “Menopause sucks!” And so does the historic neglect and under-diagnosis of women’s health issues. It was nice to see women’s health getting the attention it deserves. Many women report healthcare providers often are dismissive of their concerns. Our research at Conifer found shocking delays in diagnoses for women, with many being told their symptoms were “normal.” #WomensHealth #HealthEquity #EndTheStigma 3. Primary Care: “Let’s Stop Admiring the Problems and Start Taking Action” Panelists emphasized the need to address the US’s shortage of primary care providers (PCPs) and evolving patient needs. 30% of the workforce has more than one chronic condition, and by 2030, the number of people over 85 will double. These trends demand immediate action to redesign care channels and touchpoints. #PrimaryCareRedesign #ChronicCare #AgingAtHome At Conifer, we are proud to have collaborated on projects that help our healthcare clients design solutions grounded in a deep understanding of the populations they serve. I’m excited to continue to be part of this important work, especially as we aim to foster greater inclusivity, empathy, and responsiveness in healthcare. #humancentered #innovation #bebold #healthcareinnnovation #HealthcareTransformation Conifer Research #HLTH2024 HLTH USA
