ESRA's nationwide endeavor to assist unwanted, abandoned, or abused English Springers is carried on by those with a love and passion for this breed. Membership is simple: (Did I mention it's free!), make a pledge to help and support this rescue's efforts where and when you can. By pooling all member resources together, more dogs can be pulled from shelters, more owners with a sincere need to relinquish their dogs can be assisted, and more qualified homes will find dogs to adopt!

Thinking about adding another pet to your home? In this video, Bill Berloni shares some tips on how to make that transition as successful as possible! Bill explains how the first few days of the introduction are incredibly important to the overall success of adding a new pet to your home. He shares that it is paramount to first assess the needs of the existing pet(s) in the home. Make them the most important thing! Bill also talks about how to make proper introductions. He suggests having dogs meet on neutral ground, where one isn’t coming into the other’s territory immediately. Then, start walking! Take both dogs on a walk together where they can be in similar spaces without the pressure of figuring each other out fully right away. Every Guide Dog handler - and Guide Dog - is different. Part of building an effective team is finding the right dog for the client. Although a team working together can look like magic, we often don't see the communication and bond between a dog and their handler. The handler will direct the dog using their orientation skills, and the dog will help their handler navigate around obstacles, stop at kerbs and locate objectives. Some dogs are better at certain aspects of these "guiding skills" than others - so part of the matching process is understanding the dog's strengths and weaknesses and pairing them with a client with a complimentary skillset. The team works together to travel safely and confidently - it's not as magic as it appears! ???? ?????????? ???? ?????? ?????????????? ?????????? ???????????????? ?????? ??????????, ????????????????. What an awesome day! Yesterday I joined a team of volunteers from the animal shelter as we set up camp in the entranceway to a local ShopRite. Our goal - raise awareness, collect supplies and donations for the dogs and cats we rescue. The foot traffic was nonstop (busy store on a Sunday)!. We greeted people, caught their attention quickly, told our story. Someone had the foresight to prepare a handout list of supplies people could buy in that store and donate on their way out (cat/dog food/treats/toys plus cleaning supplies). We kept up the mantra - it's all for the animals. We spoke to a LOT of people. I don't know the final count, but after 4 hours, we had filled 4 shopping carts with supplies, and had a donation jar overflowing with bills. Maybe it helped that animal rescue was on the top of people's minds as everyone watches the horrific situation out west with the wildfires. Whatever the case, despite needing to thaw out once I got home, I was energized by a sense of accomplishment and belief in good old human nature - a community willing to engage, help, support, advocate and care. It doesn't matter that this was a basic form a fundraising. It does matter that this was philanthropy at its best. And that spirit is what can create positive change going forward. #fundraising #nonprofits #giving
