..especially in a remote work environment, Marty's advice is really valuable. Achievements are all too often glossed over, missed, or even dismissed... Listen to Marty:
Head of Operations | Skilled in Talent Optimization | Expert in Strategy and Process Execution | I build High-Performing Teams that Have Fun at Work
?? We often talk about the best ways to celebrate achievements in the workplace. Instead of suggesting a cookout or bringing in lunch, I want to emphasize the importance of celebrating wins at work! ?? Recognizing accomplishments at work is essential for boosting morale and strengthening the team. It validates hard work and inspires motivation. ?? Simple acts such as sending recognition emails and giving shout-outs during meetings can create a positive work environment where achievements are appreciated, motivating everyone to strive for excellence. ?? Celebrating wins fosters a sense of camaraderie and reinforces interpersonal relationships, which in turn enhances collaboration and trust among team members. It also helps establish a culture of achievement and reinforces organizational goals. ?? Acknowledging successes nurtures a sense of pride and ownership among employees, leading to increased job satisfaction and retention. ?? By celebrating wins, organizations acknowledge individual and collective efforts and inspire continuous dedication and innovation. ?? Celebrating wins at work is not just about the event itself; it's about fostering a culture of appreciation and excellence that drives the team towards greater success. ? ?? I never thought I’d Find Myself feeling such a strong sense of belonging in the workplace of all places- but here we are, and here it is. ?? I came back to work on Monday after a couple of days of leave to find an email waiting for me in my inbox about a ‘Champions Award’. I initially thought it was spam and was about to click ‘block & report’- until I read the words in the image below and realised it was a nomination from my supervisor recognising my work & role in the IP team. ?? More than just providing some serious external validation to shut up the imposter syndrome (yep, she’s still hanging around)- I feel SO lucky to work in a team & for a company that values it’s employees, that acknowledges both their professional & personal capabilities, and that isn’t scared to let this recognition be known & rewarded. ?? ???? ?? We also had our legal team social yesterday - which was spent learning how to spray paint in Hoxton (I take zero credit for the art piece in the image below, and will spare you all the image of my interpretation of the letter ‘A’….), and eating way too many carbs (cue the pizza, pasta and chips). ?? Whether it was being roasted for my graffiti skills, having deep conversations with colleagues about serious life decisions, or hearing the GC tell me how happy he is that I’m happy - it all counts, it all adds up, it all creates a genuine environment, from the top down and inside out - of true inclusivity, acceptance & kindness. ?? It isn’t lost on me how rare it is, for me to be able to say that I’m slowly finding where I fit in & where I belong in a professional sense - and I’m hoping that for anyone who has read this far into my waffling post, you also feel a sense of belonging in your workplace. But if you don’t, I really do encourage you to go out there & find it. Because it’s a feeling SO worth having.

They support you in tough times. 5. They inspire you to do your best. "Surround yourself with great people. They will lift you higher." – Oprah Winfrey Do you want to be on the list of great people who make a difference? Yes, It all starts with you! Begin by being the teammate others admire. A Small Gesture, A Big Impact A few years ago, I met an employee who was often overlooked in the organization. He was diligent, punctual, and always willing to help, but his contributions were often taken for granted because he worked in a support role. One day, while reviewing performance reports, I noticed something—He consistently exceeded expectations. His work was crucial to our operations, yet he had never been formally recognized. This didn’t sit right with me. I decided to take action. During our next team meeting, I made a point to publicly acknowledge his contributions. The look of surprise and gratitude on his face was something I’ll never forget. But what happened next was even more remarkable. Recognizing his hard work boosted his confidence and motivation, but it also had a ripple effect throughout the team. Others started to step up, inspired by the recognition that hard work didn’t go unnoticed. The overall morale and productivity improved, and the culture began to shift towards one that truly valued every contribution. This experience reinforced a key lesson for me: recognition doesn’t have to be grand to be meaningful. Sometimes, a small gesture can make a world of difference—not just for one person, but for an entire team. If you believe in the power of appreciation and the importance of recognizing the unsung heroes in your organization, let's connect and share more insights on building positive workplaces.

Employee Appreciation Day is 5 days away! (3/1) Count down with me! 5 Reasons I’m celebrating my team this week: 1. When things get tough, the team gets tougher. Challenges? Bring ‘em on! Pivots? We got that! 2. Clear is kind (Thanks Brené for the motto). We’re a high-trust team that give each other the real talk when needed, in the spirit of excellence. 3. Authenticity is embraced. No filter in our game. We represent our true selves and seek to create environments where others can do the same. 4. We rise by lifting others. One team, one dream- we want everyone to win! 5. Courage is currency. No idea is too large or small. We problem solve through curiosity, understanding that some ideas take courage to tackle. What are your 5 reasons to celebrate your team?!

Each person on your team offers unique skills and perspectives. But diversity is only valuable when differences are embraced. Seek to understand individual strengths. And create an open, judgement-free space for ideas to be shared. When people feel appreciated, they give meaningful contributions. Understanding organizational behavior helps you transform a group of individuals into a collaborative dream team. ?? Watch the full video at the link in the comments below

It’s only been a month or so since the last time I posted about being given a gift for helping someone out. And I’ve come into the office today to more alcohol-free beer, a card, and some flowers from someone else in the operations team. I should be sharing the beers out because it’s the company, not just me, that does the things that help our people. On a broader cultural level, we strive to be a business that supports our people to become the best they can be and that means many things, but it also involves being a flexible employer. However, to make flexibility work we’ve found that reciprocity is a core tenant of our culture—you get back what you put in. Otherwise, flexibility can morph into a culture of entitlement. To avoid a culture of entitlement and nurture a flexible company, our recruitment focuses on selecting people who share our values and are prepared to support the business, our business partners, and ultimately our customers. And that is evident from expressions of gratitude when we do help our people out. We really do have an amazing bunch of people at QDOS.
