"All products can be turned into a service." That's something to really think about. ?? This concept is at the heart of the circular economy revolution, as highlighted in this article from Harvard Business School. It's not just about recycling; it's about reimagining how we consume. ????? The potential? A multi-trillion-dollar opportunity that aligns profitability with environmental responsibility. ?? ?? What products do you think could benefit most from a service-based model? Read more here: https://lnkd.in/dzu595fd #CircularEconomy #Sustainability #Innovation #ProductAsAService
?? Circularity Is The New Black - Also in Consumer Goods The transition to a circular economy isn't just an environmental imperative—it's a multi-trillion-dollar business opportunity. As consumer demand shifts toward sustainability, businesses have the chance to innovate across the entire product lifecycle. From design to reuse, companies that embrace circularity can reduce waste, lower emissions, and build customer loyalty. The challenge is significant, but so is the potential for profit. By reimagining our consumption patterns, we can stay within planetary boundaries while unlocking new markets. The future of the food system, and all sectors, depends on this critical shift. Nice piece by Harvard Business School featuring my friend and circularity investor Michael Smith, co-founder of Regeneration VC—definitely one to follow! https://lnkd.in/dDiSiUVM #CircularEconomy #Sustainability #Innovation #BusinessOpportunity

Really enjoyed my first Shared Spaces with?Twisthink today. Such a cool way to engage with other innovation leaders. The topic du jour was the intersection of purpose-driven consumer values and the convenience revolution. On the topic of sustainability two seemingly opposing questions came up in the area of sustainability: 1. Will consumers pay more for products/services that align with sustainable values? 2. Is it possible that we could "over index" on convenience and detract from the sustainable goals? Could the answer be at the intersection the two? If we design modern conveniences with sustainability baked in, the resulting value would be significant. Great example from today's discussion: TooGoodToGo makes it convenient for consumers to prevent food waste. Not by asking them to cook less or compost what they don't eat, but by giving consumers a deal on surplus food before it spoils "Businesses unlock revenue from unsold food, customers save money, and we help save the planet. Win-Win-Win." https://lnkd.in/g2uphekk What other brands have you seen making it more convenient to make sustainable choices? Thanks Taryn Kutches for leading such a great discussion!

???Circular Economy: Unlocking untapped potential for Sustainable Growth??? We’re at a pivotal moment. Shifting to a?circular economy?is no longer optional - it’s essential. The benefits? Massive! More effective resource management can: ??Boost competitiveness ??Stimulate innovation ??Drive economic growth and create jobs ???Circular strategies could unlock?€1.8 trillion?across Europe by 2030 while drastically reducing waste. It’s time to accelerate action! ?? Let’s keep an eye on dynamic Startups in that field, mapped by CIRCULAR REPUBLIC. ?? Key Takeaways from Leonhard Nima’s Speech at #Hack’N’Talk by XPLORE: 1?? LOGISTICS is still the elephant in the room: let’s think about reverse logistics to get products back into the supply chain. Therefore, we also need?the?big logistics players?to be on board! 2?? CIRCULARITY BY DESIGN - collaboration is key, but transparency is a challenge: Reinforcing partnerships between companies can be crucial in some industries (e.g. sports equipment = limited quantity) even if sharing information is challenging. One step towards the solution??Circularity by design! 3?? NEW BUSINESS MODELS to think about: Shifting to circular strategies, like?product-as-a-service or leasing, can reduce environmental footprints and create new revenue streams. ????Did you know that the Switzerland Startup On introduced a?leasing model?for their running shoes: “Don’t buy. Subscribe.” …smart way to incentivize recycling!????? 4?? GLOBAL PERSPECTIVE: The challenges of circularity go beyond borders. This reminded me of the huge amounts of plastic waste I saw in the surroundings of the cities on my last trip to Egypt: we need a unified, international approach to solve these problems! Big thanks to UnternehmerTUM, CIRCULAR REPUBLIC and UnternehmerTUM MakerSpace GmbH for supporting events like this bringing such crucial topics to the forefront! Let’s keep the momentum going, raise awareness, and work together to unlock the massive potential of a Circular Economy!??? ?? Kilian Schmid (allunderground) - Dominik Becker, Simon R?ckinghausen (School of Circularity) - Rik Oudenhoven - Dr. Thomas Kisler - Dmitrij Madlener (RedoCell) - Leonhard Nima - Lisa Schebitz - and a lot more insightful conversations... ??

Check out this inspiring case video from Handelens Milj?fond, featuring Orkla Home & Personal Care’s circular service, P?(fyll)?l! We think this is a fantastic example of turning sustainability into tangible value for consumers and businesses. (p?)fyll isn’t just about reducing single-use plastic. It’s about delivering a seamless service where consumers always have cleaning products when they need them, right at their doorsteps. And with its sleek design, it’s helping households stay tidier while being better for the planet. ?? ? Since co-founding (p?)fyll with Orkla and Bakken & B?ck in 2019, we’ve worked closely with the (p?)fyll team to develop and scale this entirely new circular business model. Through iterative experimentation and collaboration, (p?)fyll has transformed from a bold idea into a practical, user-friendly service that sets a new standard for what sustainable innovation can achieve. What are the reasons or barriers that influence your use of circular services? Find the video link in the comments!

Sustainability isn’t just a buzzword—it’s a responsibility. While startups often steal the spotlight for their innovative green solutions, some of the world’s biggest companies are quietly making huge strides toward a sustainable future. Take Unilever, for example. They’ve pledged to make all their packaging recyclable, reusable, or compostable by 2035. Imagine the impact of billions of products being kinder to the planet! ?? Then there’s IKEA, the furniture giant. They’re working to use 100% renewable or recycled materials in their products by 2030. From your cozy couch to your favorite bookshelf, everything is gearing up to be more sustainable. ???? Whether it’s startups or global corporations, every effort counts. Who’s your favorite sustainability champion? Let me know! ?? #SustainabilityMatters #CorporateResponsibility #GreenFuture #SustainableLiving

One week later my time at SDG Tent, the statement of the team today is ; "Every time we touch circularity, it pays back." - Jesper Brodin, CEO, INGKA?Group / IKEA I would add to it "every time we treat Nature rightly, it pays back for long". The nature processing is working perfectly before human touches. So it was for millions of years yet. Understanding symbiosis processes from soil to gut but reverting bad habits challenge, is a dual and complex activity to thrive for at once. Leading by demonstration of these B-team corporates, to reinvent value. Notwithstanding the need to re define success and educate next gens on. Another takeaway from the two workshops I went to, one backed by Unearthtodox, Regenerative systems for big picture, "Transforming Bold Visions Into Action: Building Regenerative Futures" where the key word was said by Frederic Hoffmann: "conductor", with not much argument sake, in 3 seconds, yes conducting and the code of conducting is the way. And the B-team exists for that. The second workshop gave more emphasis on food, as a core backbone of every day life for millions, from taste to waste and scarcity, the financing systems need to reinvent the logic of "right of use and not abuse", with balance sheet and frame for. We thrive for impact investing and measuring for right allocation of assets and liabilities towards nature. Circularity and up-cyclability, are backbones for first waves of working capital investments in the Nature balance sheet. Playing my role yet with Novalpian and two tractions in Switzerland for support of growth to ProSeed.co and Embion Technologies effective solutions for bio availability in main processes of spent nature, for mutual links to righteous feed and food, and guess what, symbiosis in soil to gut logic. Next be to scale such projects with incumbents but by private debt and public debt leverage activities, no one said it would be easy, but the challenge is valuable. To install at scale the pilots to scale. Cost effectively, health effectively, with leaders in promoting that access to true food for most. Moment pic from design acting. Accelerating Business Solutions for Nature: Transforming Food Systems for a World Beyond 1.5 °C, with zebras and initiatives to fill innovation pilot phase, from management to capex gap filling.

Thanks Climatebase for yet another great week. Week 10 has been an insightful one filled with great opportunities of community collaboration and resource-sharing - pretty on the nose for Circular Economy week, I'd say! As one of the younger members of this fellowship community, my novice to the space, and the career world as a whole, has prompted me to be creative with how I contribute (and not just consume) knowledge, resources, connections, etc. with my peers. With this in mind, being able to play a role in sharing info and materials on a topic I have a lot of passion for - the environmental impact of the fashion industry - models a goal-achieved for me in the context of my broader fellowship experience. All of that being said, if you haven't already, check out this post to view the info-packed presentation my team and I developed on the climate impact of our clothes: https://lnkd.in/g5PBgprc

Sustainability in Action! Innovation doesn't always require new resources. Sometimes, it's about creatively repurposing what we already have. Check out this brilliant example of upcycling 20L containers into nesting boxes! Let's adopt a "use what you have" mindset and start making a positive impact on our environment. Every small step counts! #Sustainability #Innovation #Upcycling #EcoFriendly #MakeADifference Photo Cred: D. Maleko
