Happy Friday!! ?? IT'S NATIONAL DONUT?? DAY!! Author | C. Knighten Every on the 1st Friday in June, we celebrate National Donut Day! One of the most loved fried confections nation wide.....we get to indulge on this day without guilt! HISTORY OF NATIONAL DONUT DAY: We can credit the Salvation Army for helping us celebrate this delicious day! During World War I, a group of volunteers were tasked with providing the soldiers with comforting meals at the frontlines. With limited means to cook, they decided that donuts were their best option. In fact, utensils and pots to cook in were not easy to come by and they discovered that helmets would fry up seven donuts at a time! Later, these brave volunteers were given the nickname “donut lassies”. National Donut Day was established in 1938, as a way to honor those brave members of the Salvation Army for coming to the aid of our troops during World War I. Today, many donut shops appreciate the opportunity to celebrate National Donut Day on the first Friday of June. Many donut shops offer specials or even a 'free' donut on this day! GREAT WAYS TO CELEBRATE THIS DAY: ?? Bring Donuts to the Office! If you want to be a hit with the boss and the rest of your team, bring in some hot Krispy Kremes! MMM, MMMM! ?? ?? Try a new recipe! Truthfully, donuts are not that difficult to make at home. There are also several types of donuts, from dough and 'cake' to potato??donuts....yes, you read that right: Potato Donuts. Look up the recipe and don't waste your leftover mashed taters next time! ??Try something new! If you have more than one donut shop in town, give another shop a visit. You never what delicious confections they may have cooked up! So, what is your favorite! Regular glazed, raspberry filled, or something more exotic like a maple bacon? Whatever it is be sure to give a shout on social media ??for your favorite shop....they will certainly appreciate it! #deancommercialrealestate #commercialrealestate #propertymanagement #investors #retail #medicaloffices #leases #propertyinvestors #warehouses #huntsville #madison #athens

We have a story in the latest issue of Neighbourhood Media detailing all the work we do via Addison Road Food Pantry Camperdown, our low-cost grocery store which makes use of rescued, donated and purchased food to support the local community and its needs. The story (link below) shows how we help feed people from Mission Australia's Common Ground housing project and the nearby Johanna O’Dea Court, a multi-storey NSW Family and Community Services apartment block. It also explains how we serve people living on a tight budget in Camperdown and Glebe, as well as people who come to the pantry from right across the City of Sydney LGA. Most of all, the story is a celebration of our monthly Addi Road 'Let's Get Cooking' sessions (AKA "the Cook-Up"), which offers 260 free hot meals for Mission Australia and Joanna O'Dea residents, as well as those shopping at our Addi Road Food Pantry Camperdown. These sessions involve a monthly cooking demo inside the Common Ground building. Food literacy is the ultimate goal behind Addi Road's Let's Get Cooking program. As well as simply providing a free hot meal (and dessert) each month, we look at helping people to shop AND cook with often very limited funds. Each month there are easy recipes on offer (and ready to be tasted) along extra tips for stocking people's kitchen cupboards; a list of essentials to facilitate simple, inexpensive and nutritious recipes that will match whatever Addi Road Food Pantry might have in stock. It's about building an integrated food ecology for people battling. With a few extra special ingredients over a shared meal as the community comes together: camaraderie and connection. + #Addiroad #cityofsydney #foodrelief #foodjustice #housing #inequality #Camperdown #Glebe #MissionAustralia #homeless #battling #costofliving #poverty #resilience #mentalhealth #wellbeing #nutrition #diet #charity #community #freemeals #cookingworkshop #volunteers #caring #education #connection #letsgetcooking #neighbourhoodmedia https://lnkd.in/gs7vVEvM

Food pantries may distribute food, but their true purpose goes far beyond that—they exist for people. The greatest asset in any food pantry isn’t the food on the shelves, but the people who give their time, energy, and love to serve others. It’s through investing in these individuals—whether they are volunteers or those in need—that real transformation happens. When we pour into people, we build more than just sustenance; we build hope, trust, and a sense of community. The food may fill stomachs, but it’s the people who uplift spirits and change lives. By empowering those who serve and those who are served, we create a ripple effect of transformation that reaches far beyond a single meal. The true investment is in the human soul, and through that, we transform lives, one person at a time.
The heart of a food pantry isn’t just the food—it’s the people. The volunteers, the lifeblood behind every bags of groceries given, are what truly make the difference. The better the people serving, the better the impact we create. It’s not about counting how many bags of food are handed out (although we also count them); it’s about how many lives are changed. Our success is measured in the stories of hope, the dignity restored, and the communities strengthened. It’s people, not food, that fuel transformation. https://lnkd.in/gYKFdSyc

Hello LinkedIn friends, family, and acquaintances, today is NATIONAL COOLER DAY | Friday Before Memorial Day! What more could you need than a cold drink for the official launch of summer? Something to keep it cold, of course! National Cooler Day, the Friday before Memorial Day, makes staying cool easy this summer. As simple as the design of a cooler may seem, it wasn't until the 1950s that the first cooler or “portable icebox” made the scene. In fact, the material needed to make coolers didn't even exist until 1944. While we rely on coolers today to keep our food and beverages cold for various outdoor activities - they do so much more. Coolers save lives during disasters by carrying food (cold or hot) to areas affected by loss of power. Sporting events, fundraisers, and parades run more smoothly when volunteers bring their coolers along. They also keep medications at the proper temperature during shipping. Of course, the combination of durable portability makes the cooler an essential tool in many ways. It is our spare seat, prep station, and umbrella anchor, too. Despite the wear and tear endured, they faithfully provide us with an ice-cold drink on a hot day – until the beverages run out. #NationalCoolerDay #DallasHarrisTips

Happy National Donut Day! ?? Did you know this delicious day started in 1938 to honor The Salvation Army volunteers who served donuts to soldiers during World War I? It's a perfect opportunity to enjoy and learn about the history of these tasty treats with your kids. Try decorating donuts at home to explore shapes, colors, and counting! Simple Donut-Making Ideas with Kids: 1. Biscuit Donuts: Use canned biscuit dough, cut out the centers, and fry them up. Let the kids decorate with icing and sprinkles. 2. Air Fryer Donuts: Make a healthier version using an air fryer. Top with powdered sugar or cinnamon. 3. Megan, What's this HorseSense thing you have on the menu? Where is HorseSense?? What's this all about??? Here's what it's all about: HorseSense is an organization dedicated to enriching the lives of individuals with and without disabilities through a friendship with the horse. They strive to improve the bodies, minds and spirits of riders by providing weekly therapeutic horseback riding lessons! There are several benefits youth and adults with cognitive, physical and psychological disabilities experience throughout lessons as they master their riding skills. Sitting astride a horse increases balance and coordination, strengthens muscles and brings about body awareness, for example. And through complex, interactive lessons, riders practice their speech, reading and problem-solving skills as they learn to follow instructions. Other benefits include: improved reflexes, weight-bearing ability, range of motion, stamina, hand-eye coordination, sensory integration, left/right discrimination, decision-making, independence, patience, physical fitness and responsibility. Do you love when you donation dollars stay in our area? Do you love to give back to veterans? Are children's charities something you're passionate about? Come check this unique fundraiser out! We'll see you tomorrow at Horstman Homestead Farms! When this happens, it's usually because the owner only shared it with a small group of people, changed who can see it or it's been deleted.
