Why AFRICA must quit its “victim” mentality: The first reaction of some Africans, when asked why #Africa is poor amidst her human and vast natural resources, is to blame the West for the years of slave trade and colonialism. Psychologists have tagged this kind of reaction as victim mentality – that is, maintaining a kind of #dysfunctional mindset that seeks to feel persecuted in order to gain attention or avoid self-responsibility. Added, persons with this kind of mentality constantly attribute their problems to external factors. No wonder why Africa has refused to take responsibility where it ought to. Am I absolving the Europeans of the vile atrocities they committed in Africa? Definitely, no! I am aware of the cataclysmic effects of the #slavetrade and #colonialism either immediately or enduringly. However, shall we say that because the #Europeans conquered and ruled over the spirit, soul, and body of Africa in a gruesome manner for more than 500 years (if we begin to count from the first day of incursion), we should not move on and take the necessary steps that will activate the continent’s development? No! Africa will not grow by constantly blaming others for its plights. As a matter of fact, Africa will continue to wallow in self-pity and stretch its begging bowl to the West for aid if it refuses to quit its victim mentality. Africans are not the only people that have had to pass through a phase where they were dehumanized, humiliated, and dispersed in the diaspora. For instance, the Japanese did not blame the Americans or ask them to pay reparation for dropping the atomic bomb in Hiroshima and Nagasaki. In fact, #Japan has moved on to join the first world countries since it surrendered to the allied forces. In addition, other countries like #Malaysia, #Singapore, and #SouthKorea were formally colonies of brutal lords but despite the horrible experience they went through, it did not stop them from taken responsibility where they ought to. Given this, Africa MUST quit its victim mentality in order to rise. With the rise of populism in #Europe and #America, the world is changing. And a time is coming when the West will no longer send aid to Africa or depend on some of her natural resources like #crudeoil. Africa will definitely be stranded for a while until it finds an alternative to its dependency. In order to avoid this looming disaster, Africans must quit blaming fate and the West. They must forgive, forget, and work hard to ensure that the glory of Africa is restored. Unity, trade and peace in Africa must be achieved if Africa is to prosper. Denying that there is a system left by the West and that uses what I call African betrayers is not helping us either . Until we dismantle that system , we are going nowhere, even AfCFTA will be paralyzed at a time. Until the bank servers of our central banks will still belong to the West , we will be fooling ourselves. That system is the root of ALL our problems. Our leaders need to wake up and face that system , even if it means facing them military. It is that same system that has killed Gaffafi and since his killing , there is been an acute recrudescence of terrorism in Africa. Yes we need to do a deep domestic work but that system looks at us and laughs. It is that system that Mali fights , Burkina Faso ,etc. That system positions some people and enriches them and makes the masses feel like those people have worked hard where as you can not go beyond the limits that the system has already established. It is a Machiavellian system that I can talk about for days . It is sucking the soul of Africa.
Any Real African leader who stands up aganist any oppression or corruption being home made or imported, as our black American brothers and sisters leaders were lynched, silenced or jailed! The likes of Mandela, Malcom X, Steve Biko, M.Gaddafi, Martin Luther King, Patrice Lumumba, late Democratic elected Egyptian presido Mursi, etc. Why do we still cry for Black lives matter untill today! They attack only rich entities and rich continents, Africa being the virgin rich of raw materials like oil, gas, diamonds, copper, cobalt, uranium, lithium, tourism, brain drain, fertile lands and the list is long. Another thing that you need to dig in is, the western private mecenaries companies that work in Congo and whenever their is rich raw materials. Western antropologists, labaratory technicians working under the names of priests, Aid personals and so on operates in our beautiful continent. I agree on one point our leaders need to be God fearing and think like Kagame, Late Tanzanian Presido Magufuli, South African Malema and many others. Stop corruption and close the relation to not a winwin deals! If African leaders can listen to this we will be the continent that can give Aid or loans to others and not the other way round!
You have no idea what you are talking about!! - The real question si who is ''Africa''? the brave people who work hard day and night or the corrupt politicians?! - Not the same AFRICA. Never confused the two. There is no such thing as ''THE VICTiM MENTALITY''. The corrupt politicians are the one to blame in first place and second place the west because it takes two to dance Tango. The problem with Africa is its Elite, those who kill themselves to get Western VISA's. They sell narratives that are pro white supremacy. Lets deal with facts; Here's what the U.S states; U.S. contributions to Kenya estimated at over $3 billion annually, according to new AidData research https://www.aiddata.org/blog/investing-in-kenyas-people#:~:text=The%20%243%20billion%20per%20year,building%20and%20conflict%20management%20priorities. I can tell you, you can go all over Kenya and you won't see even a single dirt road Americans built. Every where the U.S has a presence there's heartbreaking poverty.. The U.S talks health care, here is something many pretend not to be aware of; Kenya has the largest concentration of Nilotes. These communities have unique blood types and DNA that is very old..???? US warns over Chinese ‘spying’ on African disease control centre https://www.ft.com/content/cef96328-475a-11ea-aeb3-955839e06441 China would spy on African disease control centre, but not the West. The $3 billion dollars is pumped on elites to cripple development, whereas China invest in infrastructure jobs and energy security, the West invest in propaganda, compromise the media and corrupt elites. This is why Africa is poor.
Rather than Japan, I think that Vietnam supports your central argument more fully. In 1975 Vietnam was probably the most physically devastated country on earth at the time. Rather than constantly blaming the war for their plight, a war that cost them over 3 million people, they went past that and are now one of the most dynamic economies in Asia. Now, a mere 47 years aften the war ended , Vietnam is investing billions of dollars IN AFRICA! Africa needs to stand up and develop itself. The massive young population is tired of hearing leaders complain about slavery and colonialism, while the leaders line their pockets.
The interesting twist is that, when you dare point out the real cause of the problem, it will be seen as self-hatred and badmouthing your own country and continent. Most of us easily point accusing fingers at the West for the ills that plague Africa, except for our glorified demigods as leaders, who usually supervise the looting and pillaging. We never dare point accusing fingers at our own side, even though we are all guilty of those very same ills.
Can I respectfully disagree with you Mark-Anthony Johnson ? The issue isn't what they did... It's what they continue doing today. They dehumanised our great grandparents and still doing to us and our children. Yes to some extent we have enabled them but if we start addressing why the Magufulis, The Kagames, Lumumba, Sankara ....etc Have a story to tell.....?
It is understandable we cannot discount the horrific impact the slave trade has had on Africa and it’s people. However, underdevelopment and backwardness are manifested by terrible leadership on the Continent. If we are to conjecture for a minute, how does dysfunctional and bad governance system waged by African leaders in anyway connected to slave trade colonialism?

1 年Africa and it’s Diaspora need to be forward looking, future focused but with lessons from history events as guide as we Journey through the periods ahead of us. We have allowed our past to enslave us, and that is having greater repercussions on our efforts in moving forward. Africa is a continent and not an island. Sadly we have become islands of tribes, nations and a peoples. The only forward for Africa and it’s Diaspora is to forge the needed unity amongst ourselves and be very selective, with future-looking approach, backed by being cautiously optimistic in the forms of alliances we make with the rest of the world. Africans and Africa must come first in all our developmental approaches; policies formulation, implementation and monitoring We must never be afraid, shy and unapologetic about any obsession to be in-ward-looking first in managing, maintaining and utilizing our resources. Our love for the collective development of Africa must far exceed the love for ourselves and individual gains. Selfishness and greed have forced most African leaders into corruption and the bulk of the looted resources are locked up in the reserves of other non-African nations. Sadly, these from the bulk of the cripplingloans and aid we getting
