We are pleased to present the comprehensive findings of the #Vienna and New York #NGO Committees on Drugs in a recent report submitted for the 2024 Mid-Term Review. This collaborative effort captures diverse perspectives from 173 global civil society organizations, regional consultations, and a global online survey. Emerging trends, challenges, and impacts are shaping upcoming discussions at the #CND just in a few weeks' time and focus on: - Progressive outcomes of the #UN General Assembly and Human Rights Council - Enhancement of international cooperation and financial support for NGOs - Impacts of war, the need for more evidence-based prevention, and human right compliance. ?? Putting his fellowship to great use, Ed Mahon and others working with him have created an incredible (in one place) database about how opioid settlement dollars are being spent. County-by-county you can peruse what the priorities are. Even better type in infant or child or even soccer and you will see what comes up allowing even more clarity about what communities have said are the most pressing needs they want to spend these dollars on when it comes to children and families. Both thrilled by this database and perplexed by how hard it is to get to other key metrics for infants born and identified as "substance affected" (e.g., how many become a notification to ChildLine or receive a plan of safe care or get connected to early intervention, etc). We literally know too little about the scope of key lived experiences of some of the most vulnerable children and families in this Commonwealth. What is measured (and reported with transparency) shows what matters to us! For now just going to stay in that happy place and the quality of the opioid settlement database brought to us courtesy of Spotlight PA consistently shining a light where others have not. https://lnkd.in/eXGW_43U

The most significant undertaking of my life... I am pleased to announce my new role as founder and Chief Executive Officer of United Against Fentanyl. My vision came during 12 months of "in the trenches" work in Espanola, New Mexico—a region of the nation historically ravaged by illicit drugs and now fentanyl. Fentanyl is not just another drug; it is a poison. The DEA deems it the "greatest drug threat our country has ever faced." To maximize profits, manufacturers lace it into counterfeit pills. Of the tens of thousands killed each year, many were not typical users—they were teenagers thinking they were having fun with friends, taking Adderall, Oxy, Xanax. I've hugged many of these grieving parents. Global leaders in politics, law enforcement, and public health have yet to learn how to address a crisis that ravages families, communities, and nations. We are in the earliest stages of this war. A central effort of UAF will be the launch of the global Just Say Never campaign (www.justsaynever.com). #JustSayNEVER will focus on five primary areas: JUST SAY... NOW - because fentanyl kills more annually than?car crashes, gunshots, or AIDS at its peak, COMBINED EDUCATION - because the vast majority of the public does not understand the insidious complexities of fentanyl VIGILANCE - because this is a global war and will require unrelenting effort ENFORCEMENT - because manufacturers and dealers must stopped and held accountable for their crimes REDUCTION - because Harm Reduction (a technical term) is proven to work The official launch of UAF and the #JustSayNever campaign is in February of this year. It is time those in the pharma industry consider the same concept.
