This article describes a recent study on Y chromosome loss (LOY) and how tumors with LOY may be susceptible to treatment with ICIs.

Last week #France based #drugmaker #Sanofi signed a deal to develop radioligand #medicines to treat rare cancers. #Pharmaceutical companies have been exploring alternatives to traditional #cancer treatments. Cancer will remain a lucrative option for drugmakers as they look beyond covid-related sales to drive growth. Noroviruses infect host cells by first interacting with specific sugars (or glycans) that are present on the host cells' surface, called histo-blood group antigens (HBGAs). This interaction occurs through the norovirus major capsid protein VP1 and, more specifically, through its protruding domain (P-domain). Therefore, studying the norovirus P-domain is essential to better understand how noroviruses bind to and infect host cells and to design glycan-based drugs that can hinder this interaction. By using P-domains of norovirus strains of interest produced in bacteria, Luca Pisapia [DC5] is currently studying how these domains interact with different human glycans in CNRS (Grenoble, France). To achieve this, Luca is using different biophysical techniques, such as titration calorimetry, surface plasmon resonance, biolayer interferometry, and protein crystallography. In the end, the aim of this project is to unravel the structural aspects of the binding of norovirus strains of interest to different glycans and to help other GlycoNoVi Research Fellows designing glycan-based drugs that could prevent the norovirus-HBGA interaction. Top five prize for our novel treatment for lung cancer! After 9 months of work I have just returned from the international iGEM competition. Where we presented our concept for a novel treatment for lung cancer based on genetically engineered bacteria. Besides the technical aspects, we also developed a business case and received a provisional patent. This again shows that Eindhoven University of Technology is where innovation happens. My main responsibility was developing AI-driven software for predicting patient-specific cancer targets. I learned a lot about independent software development, as well as doing literature research and interviewing experts. But my main takeaway is my improvement in networking, presenting and team work during this project. I am also very inspired by all the amazing projects I have seen by other teams. In particular, I want to congratulate iGEM Aachen, iGEM Bielefeld-CeBiTec, iGEM Leiden, iGEM Wageningen, Radboud iGEM Team, iGEM Marburg, iGEM Team Heidelberg, iGEM Münster, and iGEM Düsseldorf for their achievements.
