??Spooky research alert?? Despite misleading names like "natural," "responsibly sourced," or "certified," methane gas is a threat to our communities and the climate. RESEARCH uncovers the truth behind schemes to “certify” gas via third-party companies, allowing fossil fuel producers to claim reduced methane emissions from their operations. EARTHWORKS and Oil Change International found: ? Gas certification companies use unreliable monitors that regularly miss pollution events ? Fossil fuel companies rarely take action to address pollution even when it is detected ? The oil and gas industry sees certification as an opportunity to increase profits. Gas certification threatens climate goals by promoting false data and enabling gas companies to continue or expand operations under the guise of reduced emissions. Edited, with thanks to Paul Griss. Global News did a report on BC Hydro importing more energy in 2023 because of drought conditions and referenced a group I hadn't heard of before in BC power discussions- Energy Futures Initiative (EFI). https://lnkd.in/gwbTfHU5 When you look them up, they are a Washington DC listed lobby group, a "...501(c)(3) nonprofit, continues the mission of harnessing the power of technology and policy innovation to accelerate this transition...." Edit: there is a local group of the same name, headed by a former BC politician (Barry Penner) but their website reads much like an homage to their US sponsor. When you checkout their reports they are focused on hydrogen beyond industrial uses and the future of "natural gas" (methane) in the energy transition. Sure smells like someone is bringing in foreign lobby groups, headed by a local former BC politician, to ensure our energy future includes methane and hydrogen produced methane. Can you put Greenwashing and foreign interference into one group? Apparently so. Hope our politicians can see through this flimsy disguise. Today, WGCI Executive Director Michael Moore delivered testimony at the IRS' public hearing on the proposed rule on the Section 45Y Clean Electricity Production Credit to ensure the successful inclusion of mine methane under the IRA. Moore encouraged the Treasury to consider important policy implementation factors that will encourage the capture and productive use of fugitive methane to reduce emissions, support our power grid, and create thousands of good-paying jobs, including: - Accepting Argonne National Laboratory's GREET R&D model as the sole life cycle analysis tool accepted under the program - Establishing that the first productive use requirement is to be applied on a coal mine methane source borehole basis - Recognizing the benefits of feedstock blend averaging across an electric facility as it applies to CMM Read our full testimony here: https://lnkd.in/ejWSEK7R

Are you engaged in natural gas extraction, processing and transmission in Canada? Is your firm focused on reducing upstream methane emissions? Are you a technical service provider performing methane monitoring, reporting and verification? Are you close to firms and research organizations in this space? On March 14th in Calgary I'll be facilitating two sessions as part of an EU-Canada dialogue on methane emissions monitoring, reporting and verification, part of a larger effort that Dunsky Energy + Climate Advisors is leading. The morning will focus on sharing leading practices between Canadian and European firms engaged in addressing the subject, including cutting edge service providers. The afternoon session will be focused on the financing opportunities available within Canada to assist organization to put in place methane emissions reductions programs. If you are interested in attending these sessions, please reach out to me with your contact information via direct messaging and I'll ensure you receive session information. If you know an firm or research group focused on this area, please see if they are interested. #naturalgas #LNG #methane #climateaction #economy #cooperation

In our society today, energy is life, and knowledge is power. When trying to understand what is happening with the oil and gas markets, you must find trusted sources for information. The API is a great resource and has fantastic resources. When the US Biden Administration declares war on energy, oil, and gas and practices “Legislation Through Regulations,” a resource you can look to for leadership is critical. I enjoyed talking with Gifford Briggs, API - American Petroleum Institute's Gulf Coast Region Director, today. We discussed some critical points, such as the pause on LNG export permits and climate change. One thing was clear: I need more time with Gifford on future discussions. I am looking forward to our next visit. – Thank you, Gifford, for your time and expertise in the energy sector! – Stu Check out everything for the API – American Petroleum Institute HERE:?https://www.api.org/ Highlights of the Podcast 00:00 – Intro 02:04 – Discussion on API’s role in setting standards and representing the industry. 03:58 – Praise for the environmental impact of American oil and gas companies. 06:07 – Emphasis on Louisiana’s importance in energy infrastructure. 07:19 – Pause on LNG export permits by Biden administration discussed. 10:26 – Consequences of permit pause explained by Briggs. 11:33 – Reflections on unintended consequences of anti-fossil fuel activism. 15:15 – The role of oil and gas in addressing global energy poverty is highlighted. 17:22 – Mention of upcoming elections’ potential impact on energy policies. 21:23 – Discussion on the cyclical nature of energy policies and their economic impact. 25:55 – Connection between political administrations and oil prices explored. 28:07 – Briggs shares contact information and mentions API’s sustainability campaign.
