The?Miami-Dade?TPO’s?“US-1 Bicycle and Pedestrian Bridge Feasibility”?Study?is now?available. This?study?explored alternatives to enhance safe mobility for pedestrians and bicyclist across US-1 at the Coconut Grove, Dadeland North, and Dadeland South Metrorail Stations. The proposed improvements included pedestrian-bicycle bridges, upgraded infrastructure, enhanced signalization, and improved crosswalks. The study aimed to (1) prioritize safety, mobility, and accessibility for pedestrians and bicyclists crossing US-1 and (2) promote transit use by offering safer and more accessible connections for pedestrians and bicyclists to the Metrorail system. On #Day2 of the #30DayMapChallenge, we dive deep into urban road networks with a map with #lines: ?? Routing Networks in Birmingham & Copenhagen ?? Using #openrouteservice, Marcel Reinmuth examined car #mobility in Birmingham and Copenhagen by mapping 300x300 random routes across each city. He analyzed both fastest (optimized by travel time) and shortest (optimized by distance) routes: - Fastest routes favor higher-tier roads (like motorways and primary roads), showing fewer but highly central segments—indicating critical routes for efficient city traversal. - Shortest routes utilize a broader spread of road segments, suggesting more distributed paths across the network. ?? Public spaces in cities, such as streets, are traditionally considered to belong to everyone, but often seem to be dominated by motor vehicles. Historically, streets were multifunctional spaces, but the advent of the car has drastically reduced this diversity of use. In many cities, efforts are now being made to restore the multiple use of streets, promoting sustainable mobility and integrating other needs such as urban greenery. Public spaces must be redesigned to include different uses and users, promoting sustainable alternatives such as public transport and soft mobility, as well as community connections and activities to enhance the quality of life and attractiveness of the neighbourhood. Large road blocks, huge carriageways and twisted pedestrian crossings are all detrimental to the community and socialisation of road users who are divided by real physical barriers in their streets, neighbourhoods and cities.
