Today is Election Day! ??? Let’s make every vote count for the issues that shape our lives & futures. It wasn’t long ago that the?#MAPPImpact community stood shoulder-to-shoulder to?#stirupchange on Capitol Hill, raising our voices for paid family leave, affordable childcare, and support for small businesses. Many of our chefs rallied together with legislators Rep. Chrissy Houlahan,?Rosa Delauro,?and Jimmy Gomez for Congress, to stand strong and ensure that policies are put in place to make a difference and uplift women in the restaurant industry and their families! Tomorrow— we have another powerful opportunity to be heard. “At this point, we really have to change a system that has prevented us from tapping into our greatest potential. How generations of mothers and grandmothers before us have been made to feel like their dreams don’t count — that their God given talents don’t matter; we’re saying no more!” —Joanna James, MAPP Founder and CEO. Your vote, your voice. Let’s turn our vision into action! Get out the vote ???? #VoteForWomen #VoteForFamilies #MAPPImpact #chefscare

??? Are you part of a sandwich generation? Gen X women are caught right between two generations that are both in need of care: our children on the one hand, and our aging parents on the other. ?????? ?? Earlier this week, we posted about the caregiving crisis that’s facing women. As our population gets older, the sandwich generation is going to be hit the worst: they’ll be tasked with caring for young children AND older adults, all while demands on our caregiving systems will be at a record high. ?? WE NEED TO DO SOMETHING ABOUT THIS! Right now, it’s not too late to plan ahead. In this blog post, our Founder & CEO Mallory McGrath talks more about what needs to be done ?? https://lnkd.in/gcVfdE78 #AgingandEndOfLifePlanning #LegacyPlanning #AgingPlanning #EndOfLifePlanning #EstatePlanning #FinancialPlanning

A countywide study by the Commission on the Status of Women was recently presented to the San Mateo County Board of Supervisors, emphasizing the need for increased investment in child care, financial literacy, and pay equity to address the root causes of women's economic inequality. Key recommendations include creating an office dedicated to women and children, developing a comprehensive childcare plan, promoting pay equity, and expanding financial literacy programs. The report highlights that improving women's economic health will benefit the entire community, with a focus on addressing the wealth gap, low wages, and caregiver burdens. https://lnkd.in/gA9iBNVP

An exciting milestone that superannuation will now be paid on parental leave. This policy change marks a significant milestone in addressing the gender gap in retirement outcomes for women. By ensuring that superannuation contributions continue during parental leave, we're taking a step closer to closing this gap and promoting greater financial equality in retirement savings. Hopefully, this decision will inspire many companies to follow suit and implement similar policies. A big shoutout to all the advocates who have worked tirelessly to make this happen. It's through collective efforts like these that we can make meaningful progress towards a more equitable future. Women in Super

In the U.S., there's NO national paid family leave policy. Childcare is INACCESSIBLE and UNAFFORDABLE. And maternal mortality is a NATIONAL emergency. American systems weren't built for modern mothers, and the needs of moms across the country have been ignored by lawmakers for far too long. Frankly, we're fed up—and fired up! But often mothers lose faith that their actions will make a difference. Not this year. In 2024, Chamber of Mothers is uniting mothers across the country to Vote Like a Mother?. We're empowering mothers with the information and tools they need to vote according to their interests in this election cycle and beyond. We will: ??Increase voter registration and participation among women and mothers ?? Highlight and amplify public policy issues disproportionately impact mothers ?? Create a voter identity for mothers, and activate them to vote in their interests ?? Engage partners to amplify impact and reach The bottom line: Moms united are powerful. So, together with I am a voter. and theSkimm, we're declaring today Register a Mom to Vote Day! All you have to do is: ??Text MOTHER to 26797 to get voter registration information and a guide to the ballot items that matter most to moms. And, when you're done, why not pass it on to your group chat, share this post and help spread the word! #registeramomtovoteday #votelikeamother

This is a must-read report for HR leaders, employers, and employees. It gives a snapshot of the U.S. caregiving landscape, and covers the historic undervaluing of caregiving, the lack of child care affordability and accessibility in the U.S., the difficulties of eldercare options, and much more. ?
Care is, and has always been, woven into the fabric of daily life—from women doing a majority of unpaid care work at home, to the Black, Brown, and immigrant women supporting families in their homes through domestic work, and those providing care and support to children, older adults, and disabled people in their homes and communities. “This leaves inequity rife, bad news for single parent and single earner families”. (Martin Lewis). Not a single parent? We never know when curveballs come, so it’s worth knowing about. The government is scrapping the planned child benefit reform. I saw this on a post by Holly Smith and am penning to raise awareness. Campaigners had wanted a shift to household income from individual income, which was due to come into place in 2026. Currently, single parents can only earn £60k before starting to lose their right to child benefit. However, two parent households can earn £120k and still claim child benefit. How is that fair?? A great point also by @rebecca newman, as you only get ONE personal tax allowance, single parents are already bringing home significantly less than a couple. Two people earning £60k each would be subject to a lot less tax than a lone parent bringing in £120k. Being the main caregiver aswell as breadwinner isn’t easy, so make it fair. I’ve written to our local MP this week, something I never usually do. I don’t earn 60k, but it’s not the point. I’m posting to raise awareness. Who are the other single parents in my network who work so hard and want to see this fair?! And who runs a business as a single parent? I would love to hear from you. #strongertogether #unfair #childbenefit #Singleparents #equity #fairness

Imagine a world in which working women aren't asked, "Who is watching your kids?" Instead society already knows who is watching their kids because childcare infrastructure in the United States is the standard, not the exception. If that concept blows your mind, maybe you should think a little more about the economic implications of the lack of childcare systems. Utah alone is missing out on an estimated $1.6 billion dollars because women are acting as the caretakers instead of contributing to the workforce. And before you think, "That's a mom's job. To take care of the children. " Being a mother and a caretaker are two distinct responsibilities. Parenting is not the same as ensuring your child has basic needs met. Parenting= a relationship Caretaking= a job According to a recent Bloomberg article, we owe women $3.6 trillion for unpaid labor. But this type of work has not historically been valued or recognized. This needs to stop. Encourage your state representatives to focus on childcare this voting season. We need to fix the failing system. This is a bipartisan issue that affects communities across the United States. Let's solve this together. #womenatwork #childcarecrisis #workingmoms #unpaidlabor #invisiblelabor #womeninbusiness #childcare #bipartisan #socialimpact #infrastructure

We need to challenge ageist ideas that older people don't contribute to and are a drain on society in later life. In fact, older adults are the most likely to volunteer, vote, and provide unpaid care, alongside their contributions to the economy as workers and consumers. Join the campaign and start questioning ageist stereotypes: https://lnkd.in/eiX2AMHA #Ageism #AgePositive #Inclusivity
