Data.FI Project is so proud and honored to work with USAID and co-lead the development of the “Digital Community Systems Toolkit”. As you know, siloed systems make it difficult to deliver coordinated services and hinder timely decision-making and quality of care. This toolkit advocates for a person-centered, community system that can integrate community health, social services, and other sectors into a unified, data-driven ecosystem. This toolkit can help foster collaboration between governments, health professionals, IT experts, policymakers, and community members; and through a structured approach can ensure that the systems built are “client centered” and not only effective but also adaptable to future needs and challenges. This year, the World Health Organization launched the Global Initiative on Digital Health (GIDH), a network designed to align & amplify resources toward country-led digital transformation of health. GIDH will help countries move from product-focused digital health interventions to more robust national #DigitalHealth infrastructure in support of the WHO Global Strategy on Digital Health 2020-2025. health.enabled has been embedded with the GIDH founders to develop a global good that is foundational to the initiative’s success: the #GlobalDigitalHealthMonitor. The Monitor is a powerful tool for countries to understand their progress towards comprehensive integrated digital health ecosystems, identify their national funding & technical assistance needs, and improve alignment among policy makers, donors, and implementers. The Monitor functions as the data source to track and inform the four pillars of the GIDH: needs, resources, tools, and knowledge. Earlier this week, USAID launched its Digital Health Position Paper, which will guide 2024-2029 investment in data and digital health to strengthen country health systems. The position paper recommits to the four strategic priorities in the Digital Health Vision (2020-2024) and identifies six promising practices for USAID’s digital health investments and activities. Of the six practices, the report called for Support country-led governance of health system digital transformation. It highlights the importance of USAID investment in this area, recognizing it as a foundational and ongoing need across a country's health system and broader health sector digital transformation journey as measured by the Global Digital Health Monitor (GDHM). The GDHM is a powerful tool for countries to understand their progress towards comprehensive integrated digital health ecosystems, identify their national funding & technical assistance needs, and improve alignment among policy makers, donors, and implementers. USAID calls out country digital health governance as crucial for setting a vision, developing plans, establishing priorities, directing and sustaining investments, ensuring resilience in digitally supported health systems, and maintaining functionality during disruptions. I am happy to have completed a course on Digital Health: Planning National Systems; a unique course that brings together all there is to know and understand about the Digital Health ecosystem strategies, approaches, tools, policies and implementation planning.
