Thinning is the process of removing a proportion of the trees in a stand (an area of trees) in regular intervals, 5-10 years apart in many cases. The aim of thinning is to improve the growing conditions of the remaining stand through the removal of some mature trees in the canopy. Thinning dense stands of trees alters the light conditions in the stand, allowing trees to grow faster and stronger as they adapt to the change in conditions. Thinning can happen regularly across a stand (e.g. taking one in three trees in a straight row), or more irregularly, by taking small groups or individual trees. Cutting timber isnt deforestation. Logging isn’t destruction. Harvesting is a stewardship principle to promote forest health and financial stability from the land. Harvesting timber allows us to utilize the natural resources of our land we were always meant to use. Because if timber is worthy enough for Gods temple, why is it less than good enough for our daily lives? (2 Chronicles 2:8-10) There are many different harvesting techniques meant to be used at different times, stages, terrain, and for different goals. One technique is not “better” than another, but may be better in a situation for the same things mentioned above: stages, terrain and goals. And harvesting should never be pursued without being fully informed of the purpose + process…. Harvesting should never be completed without plans for reforestation or regeneration (if applicable). But the landscape was never meant to remain the same (Genesis 8:22) and it is our responsibility to steward the resources weve been given to manage. Forestry worth almost ￡100m was listed for sale last year in a market characterised by tight supply and buyer caution. The UK Forest Market Report 2024, published by GOLDCREST Land & Forestry Group with Tilhill Forestry, is now live. Read your copy here - https://lnkd.in/eYDDAj8n. The market remained strong, driven by demand for high-quality assets, stable timber prices, wider natural capital projects and a positive medium-term outlook for wood being used as a substitute for high carbon materials. In 2024, ￡95.4m of forestry was listed for sale in the UK, a 55% decrease on the previous year. The market numbered 44 properties with a total of 5,400 stocked hectares and an average valuation of ￡18,600 per hectare. Scotland continued to dominate with a 79% market share. Investor sentiment was cautious but steady. With greater political certainty after the budget, the report forecasted plenty of opportunities in 2025, with several high-value properties expected to come to the market. Batch, continuous or mobile Debarking is Industrial Equipment Manufacturing Ltd. Low boil means low wear, less wood loss and more bark removed. Frozen or pleasant we get the job done. Why Batch? Batch allows you to tailor each load to conditions both weather and quality of wood. Because the wood is charged, debarked and unloaded, the timing can make it seem continuous because your flaker, chipper or Economizer always has logs. The beauty is every 90 seconds to 2 minutes another 500 cu.ft. of clean as a whistle wood is ready to be processed into pellets, pulp chips or OSB. Continuous has similar flexibility to dial in 1/2% bark and low woodloss 1-2%, achieved. It does take alarger footprint and larger tonnage 150 to 1,000 TPH. Continuous requires continuous feed and process capacity after the debarker. Batch can be more compact and fit into OSB pond systems nicely. Removing the bark before the hot ponds means 10% better thermal dynamics. +90% less grit in the ponds. Anywhere a ring debarker is a Deal could be. Batch has all the Deal built in of a continuous, live bottom, interlocking interface of the rolls, low HP, low maintenance requirements and ease of maintenence planned in like a company doing it for almost 40 years. Yes they did. Batch has been installed in 250 TPH applications and higher. Typically, 50 to 200 TPH is the most common.
