We are wired for optimism. One way this plays out is our belief that we always have more time to do the things we want to do. When it comes to planning our funerals (or engaging with older loved ones on this issue), this often leads to a bit of death denial: "I’ll get around to this when I need to." Two things to remember. Firstly, despite the efforts of tech entrepreneurs like Bryan Johnson and our newly minted cryogenics facilities we are all going to die and we don’t actually know when. I’m sorry if this is news to you. Secondly, there are many benefits to considering and planning your funeral now. These include understanding the increasing range of options available, potentially saving thousands of dollars, being environmentally sustainable and?having a tailored and personalised send-off. Moreover, knowing your wishes can be an incredible gift to your children or partner. Funeral planning is often the first task grieving family members need to manage after a death. If the death is unexpected, this can create additional stress at a time of shock, grief, and mourning. The emotional distress—and, unfortunately, conflict—can be even worse if there is no plan in place. 3 Lessons I Learned From Working In A Graveyard When I was a teenager, I got a job with the municipal services of the city where I lived. Back in the day, it was paying double minimum wage so I said, "Heck yeah!" First day on the job, we had a funeral and had to dig the grave. Boss Man does the major part with a back hoe. Then turns to me and says, "Jump down there and square off the corners." What? Me? In the grave? Down I go into this precise rectangle. It's cool down there. I square off the corners so the coffin will rest balanced, not lopsided. Here's what I learned from working there each summer: 1. ?????????? ???? ??????????????????. The average funeral costs between $7,000 and $12,000. The viewing, burial, service fees, transport, casket, embalming, and other prep are included in this price. The average cost of a funeral with cremation is $6,000 to $7,000. These costs do not include a cemetery, monument, marker, or flowers. 2. ?????????? ?????????????? ??????????. Some families wanted to watch as we covered over the casket with sand and dirt after the funeral was over. As we solemnly went about our duties, more than a few times, family members would be bickering about "what She wanted," or money matters. At the graveside. Get a will so your stuff is distributed properly, with no guessing. Write down, in a document, what you want for your funeral. Songs or not. Scripture or not. If so, which ones? Obituary or not. Cremation or not. And so forth. Trust me. Your loved ones will be grieving and grief erupts major emotions. You don't want your loved ones to be figuring it out when they have a brain fog and tender feelings. 3. ?????????? ??????????????. Whatever your spiritual beliefs or even if you have none at all, Death happens to everyone. We will die. Suddenly. Or over time. Either way, we die. Coming to terms with this reality helps you live your life in a certain way. The way that works for you. >> What bothers you about funerals?

Working in the funeral industry gets mixed responses in social circles. It is however one of the most rewarding of vocations I could have entered into - through film, events, theatre and then establishing a destination brunch venue with gallery and event space, my route into the funeral industry has been incremental. From day one the mission was to re-humanise death and make our goodbyes relevant to our lives and lifestyle choices today. It is a curious and fascinating industry with some incredible people providing care, compassion and professional knowledge and support in the raw and turbulent time of grief. There is a however a lot of unpicking to be done too. It is unquestionably horrendous when news of mind-blowing bad practice is discovered, and rightly so, revealed. Knowledge is power. Trust is key. Sharing a very useful article from The Good Funeral Guide about what to expect when ashes are returned to you. I know we don't like to to talk or read about death but somethings are good to know #funeral #truth #knowledge #bestpractice #demystifydeath #ashes

Planning a meaningful funeral can be a daunting task, especially when dealing with the loss of a loved one. It calls for careful considerations, personal touches and varied options as suggested in a recent guide by Batesville. It's not merely about complying with rituals but about celebrating a life well-lived.????? Reminded of a personal instance when we had to organize a dear one's funeral. Going beyond the customary rites, we chose to incorporate elements that captured his love for nature ?? and music ??. We found that in sharing stories and memories, the gathering stood not just as a farewell, but as a celebration of his life. Uniquely personalized funeral experiences are emerging ?? with a rise in adoption of eco-friendly options and virtual participation. These practices reflect our evolving societal and individual attitudes towards death and remembrance. Additionally, the trend of conducting "celebration of life" services emphasizes the positive aspects of one's life journey. They are less mourning, more cherishing the memory. What would you choose? A traditional funeral or a 'celebration of life'? How do you envision personalizing the last respects for a beloved? Remember, when planning a funeral, it's about creating a space for the living to grieve, commemorate and heal, while honoring the departed. #funeralservice #planning #griefsupport #healing #celebrationoflife #lastrespects #funeraltrends

?? While it may seem like a distant concern or even a taboo topic, planning your own funeral can be a profound act of love for those you leave behind. It also ensures your final farewell goes according to your wishes. In my own encounters, I've observed the relief and comfort it brings to the bereaved family when their loved ones had previously outlined their funeral arrangements. It alleviates the burden of making difficult choices during a time of grief and guarantees honouring the person's preferences. Based on the data from Google, a striking 62% of Americans haven't made any funeral arrangements yet.?? Further, only 17% have shared their arrangements with family members. This suggests a significant gap in communication and planning that could lead to unnecessary stress during already difficult times.?? But remember, it’s never too late to start this conversation! If you decide to plan ahead, consider the type of service, location, and memorial details that resonate with your life story.?? ?? And now, over to you - have you considered detailing your own funeral plans? Or perhaps your culture offers unique perspectives on this? I'd love to hear your thoughts. ?? #FuneralPlanning #EndOfLifeCare #FamilyCommunication #PersonalPreference #PlanningAhead #LifeDecisions
