Saturday, April 20, from 1:00 - 4:00 pm, is our day for an ALA-Oregon Chapter fun-filled social event full of camaraderie, bowling, and food! Register by April 10! Several of you participated in past events supporting the Sunshine Division, and we want to continue that support! We are hoping that you can bring one or more non-perishable food items for donation to the Sunshine Division as your entrance to this event—the more the better!?This is an exciting opportunity to connect with your fellow members and business partner colleagues while we continue our support of a local community partner.?Perhaps a bit of competitive bowling or competitive eating—who knows! Knowing that weekends are often family time, our event is open to your +1 and kids. The Grand Central Bowling venue should be a fun way to mix and mingle, enjoy some good food, enjoy bowling at your leisure, or take in a few arcade game activities. Happy Easter! ?? If you’ve got some chocolate treats, keep the box and make a fun puzzle feeder game for you cat! ?? Chocolate is poisonous to cats, so keep that treat to yourself. ?? If your Easter egg box doesn’t have a hole in the front this can easily be cut out with a pair of scissors. Scrunch up the paper and place it inside the easter egg box, then sprinkle the dry kibble or cat treats inside and let the fun begin. ?? Cats can dig around inside the box to get their treats! Some cats might not understand what they are supposed to do if they haven’t used puzzle feeders before. A simpler place to start is by sprinkling dry food inside an empty regular egg carton. ?? This weekend, I had the incredible opportunity to visit Leader Dogs for the Blind in Rochester Hills, Michigan. Alongside fellow First Vice District Governors from AR, CO, IA, ND, GA, and WI, we toured their Canine Development Center—and what we experienced was nothing short of inspiring. We heard heartwarming stories from individuals whose lives have been transformed by their guide dogs, participated in eye-opening activities that helped us feel the mobility challenges of the visually impaired, and learned about the intricate process of breeding, raising, and training these exceptional dogs. Leader Dogs for the Blind offers four life-changing programs: 1. Orientation and Mobility (O&M): A seven-day white cane training program that equips individuals with the confidence to navigate safely both indoors and outdoors. 2. Guide Dog Program: Where clients are paired with a Leader Dog, receiving training tailored to their unique needs and future goals. 3. Teen O&M: Empowering teenagers (16-17) with white cane training alongside their supporters, helping both grow in confidence and independence. 4. Teen Summer Camp: An exciting opportunity for teens to build leadership skills, bond with peers facing similar challenges, and meet Leader Dogs in training. What’s even more extraordinary? These services are provided completely free of charge. Did you know it costs about $11K to deliver the O&M training and a staggering $100K for the Guide Dog program per recipient? Yet, thanks to the unwavering support of donors and volunteers, these life-changing programs remain accessible to those in need. This weekend reminded me that Lions truly make the impossible possible, creating a world where independence is within reach for everyone. Unfortunately, black dogs are often overlooked in shelters. There are currently several theories as to why black dogs seem to be adopted less than any other color: 1. Traditionally, black animals were seen as bad luck, or a sign that something terrible was going to happen. 2. Commonly, black dogs are portrayed in shows and movies as aggressive, further pushing this stereotype. 3. It is often harder to discern expressions on the face of a black dog, making it more difficult to see their “adopt me” expression. Ok anyone and everyone…… The website for ordering is complete. We do offer local pickup so we can nix the shipping. I am attaching a link. 10 pound min 16 pound max per box. 2 day shipping. Orders go out on Tuesday to miss holidays and most vacations. Thank you for everyone interested in our products. We will be keeping track of repeat orders subscription customers and will be receiving perks. Now I know a lot of you may not eat pork but, beef and lamb are on the horizon early 2025. We will ship honey when we have it. If you kind people don’t like to eat meat or get it locally there is a way to still support our small family business. Just let me know privately and we can work that out. All donations will be allocated to growth and expansion. Donations will receive gifts in the mail if you so chose to disclose.
