Exciting collaboration! CNWL Arts in Health has partnered with the?Royal Ballet and Opera?(RBO) on a transformative community project! From 1 November 2024 to 31 January 2025, individuals living with mental health conditions will explore the healing power of the arts through ballet and movement. Supported by the?CNWL NHS Health Charity?and volunteers, participants will attend 12 weeks of dance workshops led by former Royal Ballet dancers and CNWL’s Dance Movement Psychotherapists. Full disclosure. When the creative brief first landed on my desk to mark a milestone story for a legal brand I inwardly groaned. Twice.??? Who actually cares about brand heritage? Isn’t it just self-indulgent navel gazing? A vainglorious biopic of what makes us so great? ?? And since when did any law firm have an appetite for edgy brand storytelling? We’ve all been bored into a catatonic state by talking head videos about impenetrably dry subject matter. A great cure for insomnia, but to say law is a vibrant and disruptive category, would be like saying the last slice of forgotten Hovis at the bottom of the bread bin is actually quite tasty when you get your teeth into it.??? Then we cracked the brief wide open. Who cares about brand heritage? Your customers do. It proves that you’re trusted, dedicated, credible, established in your field. How do we avoid hubris? We humbly acknowledge that there’s no shortcut to excellence. It takes years to flourish. We have put in tens of thousands of hours of legal practice for our clients. So we understand what it takes to be devoted to your craft. That’s why we celebrated these exceptional people who have perfected theirs.??? We never rest on our laurels. Mastery has to be earned. Today is #BigAdoptionDay, and it’s fantastic to see the collective effort of voluntary adoption agencies across the UK raising awareness about the ongoing need for adopters. As an adopter and someone who has been privileged to work across the adoption and fostering sectors, I know how life-changing adoption can be—for children who cannot return to their birth families and for the families who provide them with love, stability, and a sense of belonging and permanence. On a day like today, it’s also important to reflect on the impact of adoption on birth families. Adoption is a profound and often painful experience for everyone involved, and we must work harder to promote and support significant relationships with birth families wherever it is safe and in the best interests of the child. These connections can be vital in helping children make sense of their identity, life history and future. It’s great to see CVAA and Coram (our Adoption Agency) championing this cause and leading important conversations. Events like these remind us not only of the importance of adoption but also of the support that must be available to families who adopt, and birth families. How are my dreams of a dance career tied to sponsorship? Back in the day, the only thing I talked about, dreamed about and did on a daily basis was dance. I thought for sure I would be a big star one day. So when I was asked to represent my high school in a ballet trio, I was beyond excited. Cut to the realization that flying to Japan is EXPENSIVE!
