As 2024 comes to a close, one lesson has stood out for me above all: take the risks you’re scared of taking, and don’t let fear keep you from chasing what you truly want. In January, I made a bold decision that changed everything—I quit my jobs to start my own company. It wasn’t easy, and the fear of failure was overwhelming, but my passion for building something meaningful outweighed the doubt. Today, that risk has paid off, and my business continues to grow in ways I never imagined. This year also taught me the incredible power of putting yourself out there. When I reached out to law firms, not knowing if I’d hear back, I opened doors I didn’t think were possible. Those efforts led to a summer internship, mock trials at the Royal Courts of Justice, and work experience with Broadfield UK . These experiences weren’t handed to me—I had to go after them. So here’s my message: the sky isn’t the limit; it’s just a checkpoint. Your goals, your ideas, your passions—they’re all within reach, but only if you dare to step out of your comfort zone. Fear of failure is natural, but don’t let it stop you. Take the leap. Bet on yourself. You’ll be amazed at what you’re capable of achieving. Here’s to 2025—a year for even bolder dreams, bigger risks, and limitless possibilities. #motivation

One of the best parts of my internship has been the personal growth—not in a “I’ve got this all figured out” way, but more like an “Elle Woods feeling out of place at Harvard Law at first, but absolutely owning it in the end” way. When I first started, I was a mess of nerves. I wanted to do amazing work, make friends, and fit in. But my brain? It was busy overthinking: What if I’m too much? What if I say something awkward? What if I OVERSHARE? Fast-forward to now, and I’ve decided to just embrace it. Yes, I’m quirky, sometimes awkward, and occasionally over-the-top. Maybe I’m not everyone’s cup of tea—but that’s okay! I’ve realized some people will vibe with me, and some won’t, and that’s how life goes. ??♀? The biggest lesson? Growth isn’t about being perfect. It’s about showing up as your wonderfully weird self—and maybe even owning those “oops” moments along the way. I bombed the presentation… Couldn't remember a word of my notes. I was hoping that… maybe…..just maybe… this was a joke, a nightmare, a dream. It wasn’t. I was staring blankly at a crowd of 50+ people and this was my capstone project. I let my team down. It was horrible. Not just that moment. That whole summer. I put on 20+lbs. My clothes didn't fit properly. I had a haircut à la #GraceJones except I didn’t feel fabulous.? I was away from my family and friends. In a new environment…. Doing an internship that required tons and tons of coffee chats. All this to say, I was NOT in my element. But 6 months later, I was starting at #JPMorgan - a highly competitive and prestigious institution and one of the most influential financial institutions globally ??. And they were impressed with my background. Looking back there are so many things I would have done differently and so many things i’ve learned since. But here are a few that I’ll share with you: - If you’re scared to do it, do it scared with a buddy. You’ll hold each other accountable and the task won’t seem so daunting. - Learn from it. When interviewing at JPMorgan, I told them I bombed my presentation but as a remedy, I joined my school’s #debate team. Joining the debate team #forced me to practice public speaking and to think quickly on my feet. - Get uncomfortable. More times than you can count. Why? Because now I can #lead a 45mn live-presentation with a Q&A session. And in this season of my life, as I'm growing 1 LAB Consulting Group, discomfort is the name of the game. P.S: I don’t think I'm ever cutting my hair this short again. Lol. What's a cringe-worthy moment in your career that, in hindsight, taught you valuable lessons? Pictures below: #Before is my internship days. #After -> in 2024, recently at the Haitian-American Chamber of Commerce of Florida business conference. --------------------------------------------------------------------- I'll be speaking at the Convert.com X Women in Experimentation Annual Summit 2024 on June 6th at 9 am EST. I never competed in a case competition on college nor practiced with a consulting club. Instead, I built my own practice. Here's why - 1. I learn best by practicing My professors told me I would get one, maybe two practical internships throughout my time in college. That wasn't enough practice for me, so I created my own opportunities. Lesson: The perfect opportunity isn't out there waiting for you, go create it. 2. Getting comfortable with failure and rejection I pitched a lot my first few months. I had no clients my first few months. I made zero money my first new months. Over the first few YEARS I figured out how to sell my services and myself. Lesson: Everyone has to learn how to deal with failure and rejection, better to learn earlier than later. 3. You figure out your value add I know what I'm good at, what I like doing, and what I want to work towards. I didn't figure these things out through studying flashcards for a Investments 101. I figured these things out through putting my skills to the test, dealing with clients, and hearing different perspectives, all opportunities I gained through my practice. Lesson: Be intentional with your time and opportunities. Being sure of yourself opens doors you didn't even know existed.

Some of the students got stuck after "What's your name?" and "What do you do?" at our networking workshop. They feel like they cannot ask anything not professionally-related during networking. We told them to ask about their job as follow ups: What is your favorite part about your job? What are your challenges? What is your company culture like? Meanwhile, in the back of the room, Michelle Quevedo-Penn and I reminisced about me breaking the ice by talking about a great carnitas joint around the corner from where we were and how she was looking for ways to welcome new team members. ?? So, what is your networking style? Are you all business? Or are you more casual? What are some of your networking icebreaker questions? And why is it not "What's your favorite dinosaur?" #networkingtips #professionaldevelopment
“You keep saying ‘Your network is your net worth,’ but how DO you network?” We are so glad you asked, interns, because Friday’s summer workshop covered networking best practices, among other things! What an action-packed morning at LA Harbor College for our interns! We started with a networking practice. Then our newest board member Michelle Quevedo-Penn of Poppy Bank answered all the burning financial literacy questions. (No, credit cards are NOT free money!) Then a special treat! Los Angeles Harbor College President Dr. Luis Dorado dropped by to give a warm welcome to our interns before they set off on a campus tour. Thank you for being such a wonderful host! Special thanks to our internship program sponsors who helped fuel our students’ career dreams: Port of Los Angeles and Prologis! #expinternship #opportunityengine #workforcedevelopment #careerreadiness

It’s not about finding time, it’s about taking ownership of it. One thing I’ve come to realize is that the time we need to work toward our goals is always available. Everyone has the same 24 hours in a day. The challenge isn’t about finding time—it’s about taking ownership of how we use that time. Whether it’s law school, internships, or spending time with family, I’ve learned that it’s up to me to create space for the things that matter most. Prioritizing, being INTENTIONAL, and taking control of my schedule have been game changers in my personal and professional development. At the end of the day, success doesn’t come from “having more time”—it comes from making the time work for you and staying committed to your goals. #TimeManagement #Productivity #LawStudentLife

6 useful personal behaviors I’ve instilled during my Woodson Equity internship thus far. 1. Arrive before everyone else; using that quiet time to get settled and focused. Being ready to go as my colleagues arrive sets a productive tone for my day. 2. Breaking my day into hour-long segments. Tracking my activities this way helps me maximize tasks and maintain productivity throughout the day. 3. Use Excel to log my tasks and progress, ensuring everything is organized and easy to follow. Regularly give situational reports my current status on taskers. The work I input into software is almost anonymous, helping my team stay aligned on ongoing projects and responsibilities. 4. Further my connections both in and outside the office. For instance, during my summer I was selected for jury duty in the Northern District Court of Illinois, I met amazing individuals, some whose paths have since crossed with mine during my daily commute. Our mutual commonality in being veterans and working in finance truly demonstrates the power of maintaining connections in unexpected places. 5. Take detailed notes during meetings, tracking key conversations, and sharing those thoughts with my leadership. Asking questions will uncover valuable insights and develop a deeper internship experience. 6. When communicating electronically, always aim for clarity, conciseness, and professionalism. Avoid poor habits like using overly casual language, or unclear phrasing. Review emails and messages to ensure they reflect my best self and convey my thoughts effectively. I’m glad to be apart of this team of skilled individuals while still unraveling so much to learn. #TheWoodsonWay #PrivateEquity #InsideAnInternship
