In a world where digital interactions dominate, meaningful community connections are vital. Even pre-pandemic, we yearned for a sense of belonging. The past few years underscored our human need to connect. As an extrovert who loves community building, I've enjoyed organizing neighborhood events that bring people together. Seeing neighbors of all ages connecting fills my soul with warmth. It's clear that happiness is tied to community. Face-to-Face Interactions There's unmatched power in face-to-face interactions. In-person gatherings allow us to read emotions, share experiences, and create lasting memories. Reflecting on the past year, the joy on people's faces as they reunited in person was priceless. Real-life experiences are irreplaceable. Cultural Exchange Modern neighborhoods are vibrant mosaics of cultures. Embracing this diversity enriches us all. In my diverse neighborhood, we've celebrated various holidays and traditions, fostering inclusion. Watching neighbors from different backgrounds come together is truly rewarding. Safety and Unity Safety and unity are intertwined. In a close-knit community, we naturally look out for one another. I'll never forget when my greyhound escaped, and two neighbors recognized my dog and contacted me. Their quick actions ensured our beloved pet was safe. Knowing our neighbors helps us protect and support each other. Mental Well-being Loneliness and isolation are major challenges. Organizing book clubs, park markets, parades, and ice cream socials provides regular social interaction opportunities. Feeling part of a community is vital for mental health. I'll always cherish the moment a young girl at one of our events said, "We should name this park Celebration Park because this is where we have all our celebrations!" This little girl felt a deep sense of belonging and joy, a testament to the power of community. Fostering meaningful community connections enhances our lives. Let's continue building these connections, creating inclusive, safe, and joyful environments for all. Share your thoughts—let's celebrate the power of community together! #CommunityBuilding #FaceToFace #CulturalExchange #Safety #MentalWellBeing

Accessibility should be considered for all shouldn’t it. My view is that we can all strive to achieve better conditions on a site. A risk assessment should take the location of any works into consideration on its design, the hazards factored in and the Red Book utilised to adopt the safest legal system of work. Unfortunately there are occasions varoius circumstances involved where the balance of delivering the works on time, the financial impact implications like the pressures of hitting quarterly & contractual targets is a real reality for many Statutory undertakers & highways works. Yes, Permit officers need to do their bit and HA’s have a duty to keep their road networks moving. The HA inspectors do have to ensure that adequate provisions are in place on site, however there should and could be more focus factored into works applications before they’re submitted. In todays fast paced world within Street Works,, inproving collaboration between the Authorites & the undertakers of these works, could and should at least provide some proactive balance for the forward planning of road works. Quite often there will be scope within a design of a project to be able to implement the best provisions on site, not just the minimum & the works complete with little to no additional time added. Standard works and more so, the Major works activities, have the time available to get some basic needs & obstacles identified & mitigated against, for those that are less able with their mobility or with their vision. The minimal requirement to just provide “an alternative route” will tick plenty a box on many permit applications which many will know refers to the lowest method of pedestrian control within the hierarchy of the Red Book risk assessment. This issue will only improve with adequate consideration & time allowed to be applied to the planing of works, which is much needed to get these changes implemented. It is commonly known that there are pressures placed on staff to get their permit applications sent in and granted on time. The industry as a whole can do better collectivity, with better working partnerships formed to implement change.
Alex from Skewb, Gary from Cadent Gas Limited and Mark from Thurrock Council have joined forces to raise awareness of mobility access at StreetWorks Sites. ? They have launched ‘Magic Fall’ – an initiative that will focus on ensuring all StreetWorks are safe and accessible for all, while also raising awareness of invisible disabilities. ? This is a lifelong journey of learning for everyone involved and this is just the beginning. You can find out more about the idea behind it here: https://lnkd.in/epNeG4Es

#productpositivity When developers collaborate and co-design with communities on Commonplace they reduce their risk of planning failure to zero. We’ve never seen a proposal fail planning permission when the developer used Commonplace at an early stage to share ideas, have a conversation and gain support. This is a relatively small development, but imagine how much pain the applicant needs to go through to rework their plans and resubmit. Multiply this up to developments with hundreds of residential units or major train terminals. The cost of failure quickly spirals out of control. The Commonplace product is designed to power positive conversations by reaching a broader audience, encouraging open conversations and building positive sentiment in the community. It’s not been easy, we’ve worked with millions of data points to iterate and get to where we are now. But we can proudly say: zero failure rate. https://lnkd.in/eW6VyHve

Ever thought about how creativity can be the glue that brings a community together? Creative activities—whether it’s a local art class, a community mural or a neighbourhood theatre production—have an incredible power to build strong, connected communities. When people come together to create, they’re not just making something tangible—they’re building relationships, sharing ideas and developing a collective identity. Creative projects offer a space for individuals to express themselves while also contributing to something greater than themselves, fostering a sense of belonging and unity. Take a community art workshop, for example. It’s more than just learning a new skill—it’s about collaboration, conversation and creating something that reflects the community’s diversity and shared experiences. Creative activities break down barriers, allowing people of all ages and backgrounds to come together in a supportive, inspiring environment. By engaging in creative projects, communities build a sense of pride and ownership, transforming public spaces and strengthening connections. So, do you believe creative activities can be the key to fostering a more united and engaged community? #recommendations ? #community ? #creativity ? #looct24

"What exactly do you do?" -- my mom. Since starting Discover Outdoors last October I have had the privilege of building strategy to increase student retention at NDSU, facilitate art installations along the river in Moorhead to support the city's placemaking efforts, grow the Fargo-Moorhead skateboarding community, and more. But, how does it all fit together? What exactly do I do? Enter Annie Wood at Tellwell Story Co.! Although words have been my profession for many years, I couldn't find a succinct way to explain what Discover Outdoors does for communities. I worked with Annie, a certified Business Made Simple coach and she helped me not only describe what I do, but also helped me discover different potential revenue streams and business models. (Not to mention it was a hoot to work with such a fun person.) I am so thankful for our time together and feel like I have a solid plan moving forward. Seriously, schedule a time with her. So, what exactly is it I do? Discover Outdoors builds social infrastructure to strengthen communities through stronger human connections. (Ideally, outside. ?? ) If you know of a company, university, city, or organization who believes that stronger human connections will help them reach their goals, let me know. I love this work. I finally feel like every single job -- from restaurant work, to nonprofits, to tech startups, to event planning -- has led me to this point and I am having a freaking blast. There you go, Mom. That's what I do.

? Embracing the Journey: In the hustle and bustle of project planning, it's easy to get caught up in the destination. However, it's the journey itself that truly makes the experience memorable and fulfilling. From the initial brainstorming sessions to the final touches, each phase of the design process presents an opportunity for creativity, collaboration, and discovery. It's about embracing the joy of exploration, pushing boundaries, and turning dreams into reality. As we gather feedback from community members, engage with local stakeholders, and brainstorm innovative ideas, we're not just designing a play space—we're creating a space where memories will be made, friendships will blossom, and imaginations will soar. One of the most rewarding aspects of the journey is the opportunity to connect with our community on a deeper level. Hearing their stories, understanding their needs, and collaborating with them to shape the vision of a play space fills us with immense gratitude and inspiration. As we navigate through challenges and celebrate milestones, let's remember to savor each moment, celebrate our progress, and stay committed to our shared goal of creating third spaces that reflects the heart and soul of our community. ?? #CommunityEngagement #PlaygroundDesign #BuildingConnections #CherishedMemories #EmbraceTheJourney #InnovativeRecreation #ThirdSpace

Third Spaces .. What are they and why do they matter? ?? Third spaces are social environments that are distinct from the traditional spaces of home (first space) and work (second space). They're places where people gather, interact, and engage in activities outside of their usual routines. And they matter because they play a crucial role in fostering a sense of belonging, social cohesion, and civic engagement within communities. They provide opportunities for people to safely interact, share ideas, and forge meaningful relationships, as well as enrich us personally. This is especially important in a world where our professional identities sit at the forefront of our lives. It's why at GirlDreamer we've always placed a heavy emphasis on holistic support, and creating third spaces has always been a prevalent part of what we offer and how we support our community. Our surfing retreats, supper clubs, social events, games nights, outdoor experiences, etc. have all been a core part of our identity, but it has definitely been an uphill battle trying to "prove" why these spaces are equally important and a crucial part of access, healing and development. For us, they're especially important because they contribute to women of colour experiencing radical joy. Yes, ?? radical joy ?? It's far more profound than just "a group of women having fun", third spaces are an opportunity to feel safe, be authentic and connect more with ourselves and others. And for women of colour, experiencing this connection and radical joy reverts to the need and necessity of healing justice. It's all connected. In our isolated, digital and disconnected world, we need this more than ever. Luckily for us, we're about to facilitate a lot more of them at GirlDreamer and honour our initial mission. We'll just wait for the sector, companies and individuals alike to catch up! ?? Do you have access to third spaces? Would love to hear your thoughts and experiences! ?? #thirdspaces #psychologicalsafety #communitybuilding #womenofcolour
