A huge thank you to MIT Schwarzman College of Computing for having me join the panel conversation on “AI and the Future of your Career” during Massachusetts Institute of Technology's Fall Career Fair Week. The conversation, led by our host Asu Ozdaglar, alongside my fellow panelists Laura Johnson, Paul Cunningham, and Daron Acemoglu, covered some crucial topics in the world of modern work, and the role that AI is playing in it. At Dropbox, AI is transforming not only what we’re building, but how we're building it, and because of this, we’re prioritizing our AI fluency when it comes to advancements in AI. Our employees are not only building AI into our products, but also building alongside AI tools. During our conversation, I talked about how we’re experiencing an AI renaissance and seeing a true human-machine partnership. AI is an incredibly powerful tool we’re using to remove the friction, or “work about work,” part of our day to day, allowing us to reallocate our efforts to the most important things and increase our most valuable resource—our time. Reflecting on my time speaking with the next generation of talent, it’s really inspiring to see how motivated and engaged they are with upleveling and upskilling themselves in the wake of AI, but also how strong the appetite remains for workplaces that truly “make work human.” Thank you, MIT!

It’s interesting to know that it’s no longer difficult to transition into tech because time has evolved so much that what looked impossible before is now very much achievable. In the past, I thought I had to go back to the university to learn computer science for 4-5 years first before I could switch to tech. That thought alone was very discouraging. Surprisingly, companies like Alx, Udemy, Google & Coursera have made it extremely easy to make the switch and I particularly love how they encourage women to #dohardthings. So back to my reason for this post, a friend of mine sent me the registration link to the interswitch career fair 3.0 just a day before the event. This was actually my first time hearing about the fair and he probably sent it to me because I’ve been looking for opportunities in the tech space. First of all, the crowd outside the hall was a lot, likewise the queue at the data analytics/ engineering booth. As usual, my observant self began to notice that there were more women than men at the booth. This means that my gender is now breaking boundaries and changing the common narrative that tech is ‘a man’s job’. I attended the Interswitch career fair 3.0 with lots of enthusiasm and expectations and I must say that I wasn’t disappointed. I had a chance to learn from industry experts, speak with them and also network with other colleagues. I remember a panelist saying that he studied political science in school but today he is an AI and robotics expert at Interswitch. His speech really motivated me to do more and learn more. It just shows that what you studied in school doesn’t stop you from transitioning into tech if you really want to. Projects often play an important role in resumes as well as interviews. - Projects showcase your practical skills, problem-solving abilities, and ability to apply theoretical knowledge to real-world situations. - Companies like it when candidates finish projects related to the job because it shows what they can do and how they can help the company. - Having a solid understanding of initiative, planning, and the ability to solve problems really helps in interviews. - Some companies might focus more on other aspects like system design, behavioral questions, or specific technical skills related to their industry. - Many people who have great projects find it easy in the resume screening process, and it also helps during their first internship or FTE experience.
