The Timeless Relevance of Human Anatomy in Medicine As a Asst professor of Human Anatomy, I am constantly reminded of the profound impact that a deep understanding of anatomy has on medical practice and patient care. Whether you are a surgeon performing a complex procedure or a general practitioner diagnosing common conditions, the knowledge of the human body serves as the foundation for every decision we make in healthcare. Anatomy is not just about memorizing structures and functions, but about connecting the intricate details of the body to real-life clinical scenarios. It bridges the gap between theoretical knowledge and hands-on application, enabling healthcare professionals to act with precision, confidence, and empathy. Over the years, teaching anatomy has been a rewarding journey of watching students transform into skilled clinicians. I am proud to contribute to their growth, and I continue to emphasize the importance of lifelong learning in our ever-evolving field. To my fellow educators and medical professionals, let’s continue to inspire the next generation of doctors by grounding them in the timeless art and science of anatomy. It is the cornerstone upon which all medical knowledge is built. #AnatomyEducation #MedicalProfession #LifelongLearning #MedicalTeaching #HealthcareInnovation

?? New Publication Alert: Effects of undergraduate ultrasound education on cross-sectional image understanding and visual-spatial ability - a prospective study ? The ability to understand cross-sectional images is crucial in clinical practice, as imaging techniques are widely used and interpreted in almost all medical specialties. ?? At the University Medical Centre of Mainz (Universit?tsmedizin Mainz) ultrasound-specific teaching concepts have been integrated?into the extracurricular training of medical students since 2017. These include lectures, compact courses and multi-week course formats from the third year of study. ?? Our latest study examines the impact of this training on improving visual-spatial ability and cross-sectional image understanding. ?? The results suggest that participation in an ultrasound course can significantly improve these skills. In view of these results, it is recommended that radiological training should begin as early as possible in students' studies in order to benefit from the improved skills as soon as possible. Thank you to all participants and supporters! Univ.-Prof. Dr. med. Julia Weinmann-Menke, Holger Buggenhagen, Dr. Dr. Lukas Müller, MBA, Johannes Ruppert, Dr. med. Alhamdulillah, I am grateful for the opportunity to share our research on shade-matching ability in dental students, recently published in BMC Medical Education. This study sheds light on the significant impact of both clinical experience and controlled lighting conditions on accurate shade selection for aesthetic dental restorations. We believe these findings will contribute to improved training methods and clinical practices, ultimately leading to better patient outcomes. This is a result of a fantastic teamwork. Exciting news from the field of medical education! The recent publication of the TELUS II study in the Journal of General Internal Medicine provides valuable insights into the evolving landscape of medical training in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic. The study explored the effectiveness of teledidactic (remote digital) teaching compared to traditional face-to-face methods for abdominal, thoracic, and thyroid ultrasound. Results revealed no significant difference in overall ultrasound skills between the two groups, showcasing the potential of remote teaching methods to match traditional hands-on training. Particularly noteworthy were the results from the FAST and aorta modules, where teledidactic students performed significantly better. This pilot study suggests that teledidactic teaching can be an effective alternative, providing a scalable option for remote or resource-limited settings. Congratulations to all involved in this groundbreaking research. Priv.-Doz. Dr. Dr. Valentin S. Sch?fer Priv.-Doz. Leading by Example in Medical Education! Ever wondered what goes on behind the scenes in a medical school anatomy lab? Let me give you a sneak peek into our world and share a little secret: it's not just about dissecting cadavers; it's about dissecting barriers and fostering a culture of compassion and curiosity! We don't just teach anatomy; we ignite a passion for understanding the human body and the stories it holds. Each incision isn't just about anatomy; it's about empathy, respect, and the awe-inspiring journey of discovery. But here's the real kicker – leading by example isn't just about what we teach; it's about how we live. It's about embodying the values of integrity, humility, and lifelong learning in everything we do, both inside and outside the classroom. So, fellow educators in medicine, let's continue to lead by example, inspiring the next generation of healthcare heroes to reach for the stars and make a difference that matters! It's not just about passing exams and getting the prestigious titles. #MedicalEducation #Anatomy #LeadingByExample #MedEdMagic #HealthcareHeroes #LifelongLearning

Another medical school is transforming medical education with Butterfly probes! Jacobs School of Medicine and Biomedical Sciences at the University at Buffalo is integrating Butterfly ultrasound probes into new clinical skills courses to improve the way that students are able to interact with their patients and get them the information they need as they examine them. “The literature shows over and over and over again, it is safer, it's more effective, there's fewer complications, and patients like it that when you use the ultrasound to do diagnosis or procedure, things are better. And so I think the students coming out with that skill during medical school will serve them for decades after that.” – Dr. Daniel Mirsh, DO, Director of Student Ultrasound Check out how the Butterfly Effect is shaping the way medical students learn by using portable ultrasound in the classroom. #pocus #medicalstudent
