Last night at my son's state fair, I saw the magic of teamwork in action! ?? The kids absolutely rocked it, showing up as a united team. They spoke confidently in front of a whole gym of people (!!), cheered each other on, and nailed their presentations. It reminded me of 3 key areas for building a high-performing team: 1. ?????? ?????????? ???? ????????????????: When we work together and support one another, we can achieve incredible things. 2. ?????????????????? ?????????????????? ??????: Believing in yourself and each other makes tackling new challenges exciting and rewarding. 3. ???????????????????? ??????????????: Having a leader who guides, believes in, and pushes you is essential. Uisce éireann Irish Water is a brillant place to learn huge array of things about water and wastewater and how we bring clean safe drinking water to 1.7 million homes and 178,000 businesses. We’re a regulated business with significant commitments to deliver a resilient water services. We’ve Customer teams, a huge Operations Team who have real challenges every day to keep the water flowing. We also deliver huge strategic programmes with over 8,000 different assets from reservoirs, to pumping station, water and wastewater treatment plants and a whopping 63,000 kilometres of water pipes, much of it old and in need of upgrade. Our graduates will be exposed to the science bit, hydreology, laboratory testing of water, how we build and manage vast amount of infrastructure, to energy and to the future using renewable energy sources. Uisce éireann Irish Water use 20% of all electricity in the public sector, to keep all of our assets running. They will also learn about leakage, about communications, finance, corporate governance, regulation and the required HR Strategy and Safety Strategies, led by our People & Safety Director, Dawn O'Driscoll They will also learn about the complexity of IT transformation and the business services and systems needed to run a complex and growing business like ours. ?? Happy World Lobster Day! ?? Today holds a special place in my heart and my personal journey. I started the day playing my own character “Lobsy” in the Bubble Ranger game reflecting on how life, like design, is full of transformations. It’s fascinating to think that in the 1770s, lobster was considered a “poor man’s meal,” reserved for prisoners, apprentices, and enslaved people due to its abundance. Later it was “soldiers food” with WW2. Fast forward to today, and it’s now a delicacy, symbolizing luxury and celebration. This shift reminds me that life is all about perspective and change. Just like the evolution of lobster’s status, our own journeys are filled with unexpected turns. We may not always win at everything we desire, but it’s those changes and challenges that help us grow, redefine ourselves, and find new meaning in what we do. Today, I’m celebrating all the Lobsy moments—the small yet significant steps that shape our unique paths. Let’s honor our personal growth and resilience, and embrace the transformations life and design bring, because today is the day of the lobster!
