Lack of reproducibility of resting-state functional MRI findings in migraine with aura. In this large, population-based functional MRI study using an extensive series of data analyses, no evidence of abnormal brain connectivity was found in migraine with aura patients and previously reported findings could not be replicated. Excited to share the announcement of the UltraCortex repository, housing ultra-high field 9.4 T1 brain MRI data and validated segmentations. This invaluable resource contains 86 structural MR images with resolutions of 0.6 to 0.8 mm, as well as segmentations of 12 brains into gray and white matter compartments, independently validated by expert neuroradiologists. Access high-quality imaging data and validated segmentations to advance neuroimaging studies. Explore the post here: https://bit.ly/3L4HqUq.

Our recent publication titled "Advanced Magnetic Resonance Neuroimaging Techniques: Feasibility and Applications in Long or Post-COVID-19 Syndrome - A Review" explores the potential of advanced MR neuroimaging techniques in studying long or post-COVID-19 syndrome (PCS). The review delves into the feasibility and applications of various MR imaging modalities, such as diffusion tensor imaging, perfusion imaging, and resting-state functional imaging, to better understand the structural and functional brain changes in PCS patients. We emphasize the need for larger studies of these advanced techniques to be conducted in managing PCS, which can provide valuable insights into the pathophysiology of the disease and aid in developing effective treatment strategies. Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) is an imaging modality that uses magnetic fields and radio waves to create detailed images of the brain, joints, spinal cord, breasts, blood vessels and internal organs without ionizing radiation. MRI can be used in multiple ways to properly evaluate the area of concern. Depending on the symptoms, intravenous gadolinium (non-iodine) contrast or oral contrast can be used to gain more information. A 64-year-old patient presented with complaints of severe headache and vertigo. A non-contrast CT brain scan was performed as advised for diagnostic clarification. Findings reveal a space-occupying lesion (SOL) in the left basal ganglia, with a strong suspicion of astrocytoma. Recommendation: Further evaluation with contrast-enhanced CT (CECT) or MRI of the brain is advised.

Did you know that long COVID can cause cognitive decline? The virus attacks your brain in a variety of ways, and we can SEE the damage it causes via advanced imaging. If you get standard CT scan or MRI of the brain, you may see structural damage, however metabolic and functional damage may be identified with a SPECT. Dr. Mohammed Elamir explains.
