Last month, the Pennsylvania Senate passed a bipartisan bill allowing more licensed medical cannabis cultivators and processors to sell directly to patients. The measure, which passed with a vote of 44-3, aims to address the current limitation where only five of the state’s 25 licensed companies can operate as dispensaries, leading to a near-monopoly in the market. State Sen. Chris Gebhard (R), the bill's sponsor, indicated that amendments could be introduced in the House to include provisions for home cultivation by registered patients or even full legalization. However, State Sen. Dan Laughlin (R) expressed skepticism that the bill would pass if it became a vehicle for adult-use cannabis, suggesting that home cultivation could strengthen its chances. Sen. Camera Bartolotta (R) voted against the bill due to the absence of home grow provisions, emphasizing the need for increased access to medical cannabis. Similarly, Sen. Sharif Street (D) supported the bill to keep it moving forward but highlighted the necessity of addressing the costs faced by patients, advocating for home cultivation as a potential solution. The bill is currently under review by the House Health Committee.

#Nebraska voters approved two initiatives to legalize and regulate medical cannabis, with 71% and 67% support, respectively. Initiative 437 legalizes up to five ounces of medical cannabis for patients with a healthcare practitioner's recommendation, while Initiative 438 establishes the Nebraska Medical Cannabis Commission to oversee the program. However, the implementation of these measures is currently uncertain due to ongoing legal challenges concerning the validity of the collected signatures. A district court judge is expected to rule on this matter, potentially impacting the enactment of the voter-approved initiatives. #NebraskaCannabis #CannabisLaw #Cannabisindustry #CannabisLegislation https://lnkd.in/gX6Ufbpx

In a recent interview in Gangly, she outlines the distinctions between rescheduling cannabis to Schedule III and fully descheduling it, exploring the implications for the industry, particularly for medical marijuana dispensaries. Jenkins emphasizes that while rescheduling is an important milestone, full descheduling is crucial for achieving federal legalization and enabling interstate commerce, which would benefit both businesses and consumers. This conversation sheds light on the financial and regulatory challenges still facing the cannabis industry and underscores the need for continued advocacy and legislative action. ??
