Some recent thoughts - Why is it considered as a taboo to be in between the jobs? One hand organizations hire a wellness specialist & have EAP platforms to help employees & on the contrary the same organisation or people will consider it very negative when someone quits a job to maintain their sanity & mental wellness. I have left UKG & it was a personal decision. This place has given me so much & I am always grateful. However, it was time to move forward & achieve my goals. I am in between my jobs for a few weeks after almost 12 years of continuous work. I am able to spend so much time with my kids & also working on my personal goals. Is it so hard for someone to offer me a job just because I ain't working for 2 weeks? Does that define my potential & all that I have achieved in my career? I have spent so much time explaining this to a recruiter from a company recently & I have also met a hiring manager virtually from a different organisation the day before yesterday who appreciated the fact that I have some downtime. This can be debatable & people may have opinions on this. However, this is high time that us as an individual needs to change our perspective towards it. #mentalhealth #inbetweenjobs #personalgoals

What makes you feel appreciated in the workplace? Last week I noticed many posts for Employee Appreciation Day. It was lovely to see all the photos of team lunches, branded cupcakes and after work drinks. However…………. Surely it is important to show people your appreciations every day! I’m not suggesting cup cakes 365 days of the year (this could lead to some health issues!) but there are lots of ways to show employees they are valued and a lot of these are worth more to an individual than a pink frosted cake?? These include: ?? A fair salary ? Flexibility ? Regular feedback / reviews ?? The correct tools to do the job ?? Realistic working hours ?? A career path and development opportunities ???????? Support with Mental health, bereavement and parental leave I am sure there are many other things that could be included. Appreciating your employees is not just a marketing campaign, it will benefit the business in so many ways when you can retain and attract the top talent to work for you. #retaintalent #toptalent #hiringtalent?

Treat work as work. Respect professional relationships, but don't mix emotions. Ask for a raise when deserved, seek promotions when it's time, and call out toxicity when you see it. I don't care whether you come into the office at 9 am. I don't care if you choose to work from home or not. I don't care if you work from the garage while they fix your car. I hired you for a job and I trust you to get it done. Just let me know what you need from me to be successful in your role. And I will show up for you. Life happens! You don't need to justify to me why you need a day off. You don't need to explain how sick your child is to leave early. You don't need to apologize for having a personal life. Yes, I care about results but I also care about you. We are all human and we are all adults. I lead people. I don't run an adult day care center. My advice for anyone hiring: 1. Select the right people. 2. Agree on deliverables (be crystal clear). 3. Provide proper tools and support. 4. Work-life balance to prevent burnout. 5. Get out of their way. Agree?
