January 2024 marked my 16-year anniversary in the railroad industry.?I don’t typically dwell on the past, but a message from a friend who started this journey with me had me reminiscing on the path taken and the individuals that impacted me along the way.??? ? Today, the operating and safety side of the railroad is unrecognizable from what it was when I started my career.?There have been countless safety initiatives implemented throughout my years.?From “safety minded” to “safety focused” to “sending everyone home the way they arrived” to my favorite “safety culture.”?The intentions behind all of these were in line with where the industry wanted to be at the time.?From my perspective, the leader behind each initiative was what made for a success or a failure, or in some cases, nothing at all.?? ? I have been fortunate to work with many impactful leaders across the industry.?The experience I’ve gained, along with the lessons and knowledge that I received from mentors and colleagues is what wrote the operating manuals for Crooked River Railroad.?And we are evolving just like the industry always will be.?It truly does start with having the right people in the right positions.?Trusting your team to make the right decisions is easy when your team shares the same vision.?? ? Today, we celebrate a team dedicated to making those right decisions every time…Crooked River Railroad // 3-Year Injury Free

Its September, and I only have a few more 75th Anniversary Posts to make before we flip into 2025. When Foremost started in Lloydminster in 1949 as Universal Industries, it was a small blacksmith and machine shop supporting the local agriculture, and oil & gas industries. At that time, Lloydminster was becoming a hub of innovation. With three refineries, the Husky Refinery (still operating today, see the picture from 1950 below), the Excelsior Refinery, the Kodiak Refinery, and the local oilfields were rapidly developing. The pioneering spirit that emerged in this region, particularly in the production of heavy oil, shaped the community and industries alike, sparking a flood of innovative ideas back by an entrepreneurial spirit. Being situated at the heart of Alberta and Saskatchewan's heavy oil production, along with a culture of innovation, gave Universal Industries the foundation to grow. Starting with repairs on plows and fabricating small oil tanks, the company embraced new opportunities. This drive to innovate transformed a small blacksmith shop into a manufacturer that now takes on projects weighing hundreds of tons. Innovation has always been part of Foremost's DNA—solidified as a core value in 2014. Today, you can see this commitment in every facet of the company: from automated processes in administration and finance, to robotic welders, advanced product design, and continuous improvements in fabrication. Looking back on 75 years of progress, it’s incredible to see how far we've come. From those early days, through decades of growth and transformation, to today—where innovation isn’t just a value, it’s our future.

Corn Belt Ports More exciting AMTRAK news for the Northern Grain Belt Ports segment. We love it that the Corn Belt Ports are linear, rural, multi-modal transporation features that can also provide a nice river view for AMTRAK passengers. La Crosse, Winona and Red Wing are some of our favorite inland port cities that will directly benefit from this expanded service. We do need the other three Corn Belt Port regions to catch up with their planned AMTRAK expansions. I'm excited to announce Amtrak's newest route: Borealis! Beginning May 21, this new service will connect the Twin Cities, Milwaukee, and Chicago just in time for the summer travel season. Borealis will operate daily along with the Empire Builder to provide more options for our passengers. This service is made possible by funding from Wisconsin Department of Transportation, Illinois Department of Transportation, and our newest state partner: Minnesota Department of Transportation. A huge thank you to the many teams across Amtrak that put in countless hours into getting this service ready to launch. This is an exciting time for Amtrak and we're just getting started!

https://lnkd.in/geVgq5pi #InsuranceStory: I went to school for Business Administration having no clue what career I wanted to pursue. One day while in the library at SUNY Oswego (which didn't happen very often! lol), I decided to look at a book that outlined different careers you could pursue with a 4-year Business Administration Degree. I came across "Insurance Underwriter" which sounded interesting. It was at that moment I decided I wanted to try and get a "leg up" by gaining some insurance experience through an internship. Not knowing the difference between an insurance carrier or agency, I decided to open the phonebook yellow pages (an actual printed book that listed all businesses by category from A-Z, lol) and solicit each insurance business asking if they'd be willing to hire a college intern for the summer. Low and behold, I received a call back from a local prominent independent agency who was willing to bring me in. I spent the summer processing personal lines policies and backing up our claims department by taking claims calls. I continued to work at the agency throughout my senior year of college and during my spring semester, I attended thirteen 8-hour Saturdays of insurance licensing classes. By the time I graduated college, I was a licensed Property Casualty Insurance Broker. I was hired by this agency as a personal-lines insurance broker after graduation, and that is how I began my insurance career! That was 30 years ago and since that time I have held various insurance roles on both the agency and carrier side of the insurance business. I have worked in personal, commercial, life, financial services and surety lines of business. Almost two years ago, I had the opportunity to join Erie Insurance Group as a Senior District Sales Manager in Central New York. I quickly learned what an amazing culture Erie exhibits and I'm SO PROUD to work for such a tremendous organization and the amazing agents that represent us!! Have you ever considered #insurance? What's your insurance story? #HappyBirthday #ERIEemployee
Today, ERIE celebrates our 99th Anniversary. While next year is a big milestone, it doesn't take away from the fact that we're proud to provide our customers with the same service today that we gave in 1925.

Instances of fires initiated by lithium-ion batteries, which power e-bikes, continue to be on the rise. As crucial as these devices are to cities across the country, they pose severe risks when not used properly. That’s why we are proud to sponsor the League of American Bicyclists' National Bike Summit, where we will highlight the need for voluntary adoption of safety standards for e-bikes, which offer a layer of protection for the consumer who is largely unaware of their risks.
