As we close out the first day of the Accelerating Medicines Partnership? (AMP?) Program Symposium, we celebrate the impact of these large-scale public-private partnerships on the broad scientific, medical, and patient communities. From the initial three projects launched in 2014, focused on type 2 diabetes, Alzheimer’s disease, and rheumatoid arthritis and lupus, the AMP Program now encompasses 10 projects in many disease areas, with more to come, involving 16 NIH institutes and programs, 34 industry partners, and 37 nonprofit and patient advocacy organizations. Together these collaborative teams have improved our understanding of disease pathways, facilitated better selection of targets for treatment, and identified platforms and processes to help treat and find cures for diseases faster.
