An additional advantage of geotextiles in this application, more so for thick needle punched ones, is that, in spite of soil particles blocking some of the pores of the product, there is enough space in soil fibre matrix for water to move without an hydraulic pressure developing. Such an hydraulic pressure can lead to unexpected forces on the structure. A further advantage is that flexible geotextiles can absorb movements as the structure relaxes around its various functions!
