Today, we are proud to announce the results of our first Life Cycle Assessment (#LCA), conducted in collaboration with Chalmers University of Technology. The study reveals that our biomass gasification plant in Kisa not only reduces emissions but also has the potential to achieve negative emissions, reaching as low as -6 g CO2-eq/kWh.? This means that our technology can remove more #CO2 from the atmosphere than it emits! ”Through our biomass gasification technology, we can transform locally sourced biogenic waste into two valuable products: biosyngas and biochar,”?explains Niclas Davidsson, CEO of Meva Energy. ”Biosyngas serves as a renewable energy source for industrial processes, replacing fossil fuels, while biochar, recognized by the EU as a carbon dioxide removal (CDR) technology, enhances soil health and reduces atmospheric carbon. This is so important, maybe the most important post from us so far. Reminder for all decision-makers: conducting a serious, independent life-cycle analysis is the ONLY WAY to really compare different energy technologies including biofuels and other bioenergy applications. Far too often this is neglected in favor of broad brush arguments and unrealistic future scenarios. All investors or potential buyers of green tech should always include LCA requirements in their decision criteria. So how good of a result is this? Well, being able to produce biogas (or any biofuel for that matter) with a negative carbon footprint is truly unique. Only highly efficient conversion technologies featuring inherent permanent carbon sinks can do this.

Special thanks to our tour guide Jürgen Jacoby and facilitator Ted Bergdahl. It was a pleasure to see the large #PEM electrolyzers, compressors, reactors, #CO2 stations and methanol storage facilities shortly before planned operations in September ??. It is no coincidence that the largest #PV site ? in Northern Europe sits right next to the plant, providing power via direct connection. Biogenic #CO2 is supplied by a biogas plant. Why is this important for E.ON Energy Infrastructure Solutions? ?? Belief: The market needs lighthouse projects like Kass? to come online and be operational to showcase technical and commercial viability, easing markt entry and growth opportunities for everyone. ? Value chain effects: Rise in demand for e-fuels will help all stakeholders along the entire value chain in developing relevant projects – also upstream when dealing with #CarbonCapture of biogenic CO2 from biomass or waste-to-energy plants. ?? Scaling: The more projects are executed, the lower costs for generating e-fuels will come and the more mature the market grows.
