It’s Lesbian Visibility Week and we decided that this year we are going to take this opportunity to shed light on an important issue in a 3-part series called :: Lesbians, Labels, and LLMs: The future of the word lesbian in digital spaces. Over the next three days, we will be discussing the origin of the discrimination of the word lesbian in digital spaces, the actions that got us to where we are now, and lastly; what we can do about it. #LVW24 #lesbianvisibilityweek #LLM #LesbianVisibilityWeekUSA #UnifiedNotUniform
The way I had no idea it was this bad ... y'all really doing the work!!! I'm SAT for this series.
In 1994 (omfg) I presented a paper on descriptions of lesbians and Black women generally in print media. The echo chamber then has turned into an “echo helmet” (thanks Philip Jones ) now in LLMs. Add that “lesbian” itself has particular denotations in common culture and boom! exclusion on 87 levels. Thanks for bringing this up
Thanks so much for illuminating this. Such a longtime (and totally ongoing) problem. On a related note let me say we are all very fortunate that the domain Lesbian.com remains lesbian-owned!
whats the minute of blank at the end?!
Ugh. The LLM aspect never even occurred to me.
