We are excited to have the Irvington Theater BACK in our neighborhood! After their longest intermission (being closed for nearly five years for renovations), they're celebrating with an open house this weekend and a comedy night on November 9, featuring a hilarious lineup of comedians. LWD is proud to be a sponsor of this momentous occasion! We can't wait to see the community come together to support this local gem ?? #SupportTheArts #CommunityOutreach

Thoughts on Commercial Theatre: The heart of commercial theatre beats with the pulse of community investment. If we want to see Broadway—and the arts as a whole—thrive, we must rethink our investor model. Imagine systems that lower the investment threshold to welcome more voices and visions. #Broadway #BroadwayComments #InvestmentInTheArts #CommunityDrivenTheatre #ArtAsInvestment

Today's decision by New York Governor Kathy Hochul to indefinitely put off implementing congestion pricing has plenty of people in the New York City tri-state area relieved. It would have imposed an added $15 cost on cars entering New York City below 60th Street. One sector that should be pleased about the move is Broadway. The entire theatre district is located within the congestion pricing area. Traditionally, a third of Broadway tickets are sold to residents of the greater New York City region. And not all of those show goers take mass transit to get there. In fact, concerns over late trains or buses, or poor transit options, drive plenty of audience members to get in the car and head to Midtown. It's no secret that Broadway tickets are expensive. So is gas. Drivers have already traveled toll roads to get to the city. And if street parking is unavailable, well, garages can cost $30, $40 and even $50 for an evening. Want to grab dinner? A drink? You're looking at a very costly night out. Broadway ticket sales to buyers in the tri-state have not returned to pre-pandemic levels. An added cost just to get to the theatre was not going to help bring them back. #Broadway #Theatre #NYC

I have discovered a new form of team builder:
Can I promote a play on here? I'm so thrilled to be a part of the incredible cast of "An Experiment with an Air Pump" at The Island Theater. Opening night is just 4 days away, with performances May 3-12. We've been working hard to make sure we do this script justice—one that fearlessly?explores issues of ethics and gender and art and science, and demands its audience do the same. I'm biased, sure, but it really is a great one! If you're in the Jacksonville area, come out to The Island Theater this weekend or next to support me and us and the performing arts. Tickets are on sale now at?www.theislandtheater.com.? (FYI this show is not for children.)

Would be curious for thoughts here. As arts and nonprofits face new challenges with AI, what happened the last time the world was faced with a change so drastic? Comment below!
I've been looking for writing or resources around the theater organizations' responses to the rise and adoption of the internet in the late 90s. It seems to me that it must have fundamentally changed how we made theater, but I can't find much about that adaptation or what the general vibe was while it was happening. So I'm turning to y'all: Were you working in or leading a theater organization around 1997-2002? How did your organization respond to the internet? What were the questions that it brought up at the time? Was there a lot of skepticism about it? Did it actually change how we worked as arts administrators in the drastic way that it seems? Can't wait to hear your stories! #TheaterEvolution #DigitalArtsHistory #ArtsLeadership #InternetEra #TheaterAdministration

By practicing good movie theater etiquette, you can help create a positive and enjoyable experience for everyone in the theater. Don't put your feet up: Avoid putting your feet up on the seats in front of you, as this can be disrespectful and dirty. Be respectful of others: Be mindful of others around you and their movie-watching experience. Keep your voice down and respect the movie's storyline. Stay seated during the movie: Stay seated during the movie, even if you need to use the restroom or get a drink. If you must leave, do so quickly and quietly. #MovieTheaterEtiquette #RespectfulViewing #QuietPlease #NoTalking #NoPhoneZone #MindfulMoviegoer #ConsiderateCinema #SilentSnacks #DistractionFree #PoliteAudience

"The way forward is through collaboration," The Wilma Theater's Leigh Goldenberg says. The Wilma's Evolving Futures grant from the Center will allow it to do just that: forge new partnerships and mount new co-productions, while cost-sharing and co-marketing. The theater's focus on collaboration is display in its production of “The Comeuppance” (on stage through Dec. 8), a co-production with Washington, DC’s Wooly Mammoth Theater.
