Today, Southern Glazer's announced the successful closing of its acquisition of Horizon Beverage Group, Inc. (Horizon), one of New England’s premier alcohol distributors, including all of Horizon’s operations and wine, spirits and beer portfolio. Effective immediately, Horizon’s operations in Massachusetts and Rhode Island will operate under the name Southern Glazer’s Beverage Company, led by Scott Oppenheimer, East Region President. We are happy to announce that we have completed the acquisition of the leading international soft drinks business Britvic plc to create a single integrated beverage company in the UK.?The combined business will be called Carlsberg Britvic. With the transaction now complete, we are excited to create a highly attractive supplier of beer and soft drinks in the UK, with an efficient supply chain and distribution network. ? With this acquisition, we are also strengthening our existing relationship with PepsiCo, becoming their largest bottling partner in Europe. During this past spring quarter at UCSB, I took a business strategy (TMP 120) course within the Technology Management Department. My team and I had the opportunity to take a real-world company and choose a new strategic application to make the brand even more successful! So, I'd like to share the end result of our project! We chose the non-alcoholic beer company Athletic Brewing Company and diligently made an action plan for them to expand into the mocktail industry, creating the product Oasips. Oasips is an alcohol-free beverage that has added health benefits. An example of one of the limited flavors would be the Mighty Mule (Moscow Mule flavor with real ginger, making it an immune booster). This project was a lot of fun and I learned an extensive amount about business strategy, particularly how to leverage one's competitive advantages and seek new opportunities. Thank you to Eric Zackrison for being an excellent professor and providing incredible guidance this entire quarter. I plan to complete the Technology Management Certification and learn even more in this industry!
