Early years education is too important to be left to chance! Today, #Ofsted published the final part of its "Best Start In Life" research, showing just how vital quality early education is for setting the stage for success - academically and for health and wellbeing. This is especially important for those whose early learning has been limited, including those from disadvantaged backgrounds and those whose language and communication are delayed. The report found the key indicators of an effective early years education include: ??High-quality interactions between children and adults. ??Smart use of time to build key knowledge and skills. ??Connecting new learning to what children already know. ?? For our national Personalized Learning Initiative, the University of Chicago Education Lab is working hand-in-hand with eight site partners across seven states to deliver in-school, high dosage tutoring to students. ? Early results suggest in-school high dosage tutoring is working to accelerate learning and overcome pandemic-era learning loss. ? These results are important for states and districts to consider as they look ahead to September when allocations for the Elementary and Secondary School Emergency Relief funds must be allocated. ? Teachers remain essential stakeholders in tackling literacy challenges in any community. As important as they are to developing literacy skills in learners, some of them are not aware of the current trends in literacy let alone practical ways of teaching it. Understanding this, we incorporated Teachers' Training into our project. And we are pleased to announce the commencement of this phase in our project execution. The first session of our Teachers' Training began this week, and we had teachers from 4 public primary schools in Obafemi Owode Local Government in attendance. We began the training by watching a video that emphasised the roles of teachers in building wholesome learners. Then, we delved deeper into discussing 'Literacy in the 21st Century'. We further examined literacy challenges especially as it concerns children in underserved communities. Before the end of the workshop, we examined the roles of teachers in developing learners' literacy. Practical ways of improving literacy rates in our schools were highlighted as well. It was truly a remarkable day at St. Peter's Anglican Primary School, Obafe. We had a great time teaching and learning from fellow teachers in underserved communities. It’s wonderful to hear that donor support for GLPS Kampli is increasing.
