Steve LeVine question's is so easy to answer: Demand Price Elasticity for EVs. The base model for Lucid Pure starts at $71,400. The base model for Tesla Model 3 starts at $40,380. The base model for Tesla Model Y starts at $44,380. Tesla sells > 95% of Models 3+Y and < 5% of Models S+X The vast majority of the buyers want affordable EVs with decent range. Because of inflation, the purchasing power has shifted to even lower price points. EV Growth is in the lower priced segments and there is plenty of luxury EVs in a crowded segment with zero growth.

Lucid Technology motor technology has perhaps the best-engineered permanent magnetic motor on the market. Lucid and Tesla are US-made. The video compares Porsche, Tesla Plaid, and Lucid. Two Americans made one German. It is my understanding; GM manufactures its EV motors exclusively in Asia, not in the the US. We have seen this with the GM introduction of the Lyriq. Just could not get the parts delivered for the product to be made. Huge supply chain failures and management issues. My comments and review: Congratulations go out to Lucid engineers, truly, the best permanent magnet motor perhaps ever made. Overall: The next vehicles produced by Lucid; such as the Lucid Gravity may turn out to be the best choice for EV buyers once it hits the market and is expected to be soon. When you purchase an EV: The best EV's will have a combo of Charging NACS port, Permanent magnet, Induction motor for regen, Heat/cooling management systems, Battery chemistry, Software, Software upgrades delivered (experience to the owner), and Vertical supply chain within the same company (perhaps the most important weighted factor). EV's are designed to go between 300,000 to over 1 million miles and last 20-plus years without major interruptions in over lives. Lucid does have other videos they put out that cover other achievements. I encourage you to look for them. An induction motor also must be considered for regen which the video does not cover. Often there are compromises made for simplicity lower-cost mass production, and adoption to the market. The price can be an important factor on the selection of the motor technology for a company to continue at certain points in time. For the Engineers and Management: Consider a bespoke market that may turn into the everyday market. Build us a skateboard that you keep forever, bespoke the auto body. Consumers should be able to keep the skateboard because it is so good and changes the auto body over time. This would be a market shift which no one has done. It also allows for the skateboard to be sold to other auto manufacturers. Agreed this did not work out well for Fisker Automotive. Fisker Automotive; I would put in the category of a case study in management failure and not the skateboard concept to the consumer. Recently I had the pleasure of joining the Lucid Motors team at their Bay Area HQ to bring our teams together and review current programs in flight and planned. For those of you not familiar with the company, #Lucid originally started as a #EV battery manufacture that - like so many other startup companies - jumped in the pool to build full vehicles. Their journey as now evolved into a multiple vehicle portfolio, with the release of the luxury segment Gravity SUV and a multi-tier Lucid Air Touring sedan offering. From Autoweek regarding the Air model tour that will compete vs the Tesla Model 3 in the mid-sedan segment: "This Lucid Air Touring sits below the flagship Sapphire and Grand Touring and boasts 620 hp from its twin-motor layout. The folks at Lucid say this combination is good enough for zero to 60 mph in 3.4 seconds and a 140-mph top speed, all while weighing two and a half tons."
