Chambers Talent Daily Read 4 Career Tips for Gen Z Job Seekers and Employees "It’s rare to find a career-related blog or article today that doesn’t mention the Great Resignation in some shape or form. After 47 million American workers quit their jobs in 2021 with millions more following throughout 2022, 10.8 million U.S. job openings now remain, making it seem like a job seeker’s paradise. But as Gen Z transitions into the workforce, they do so not with optimism, but with uncertainty, anxiety, and feelings of unpreparedness. So why the disconnect? Despite a record number of job openings and seemingly unlimited opportunities, the workforce’s newest generation is plagued by doubt, consistently missing the" We can't possibly write an article everyday on current recruitment or HR trends, we'd have no time to recruit! "Resume gaps used to be clear negative signals. Today, they fall short of telling the whole story of a potential hire’s work ethic, reliability, and employment readiness. But this was an unclear picture in the past, too." Interesting read on how 'resume gaps' are interpreted (including our assumptions and biases), the bigger picture, and ways to minimise the impact. However, simply put I think the key is still in telling the story and making it clear for the recruiter / hiring manager - because often the details are widely known via social media and the like already! And for the recruiter / hiring manager, to still work through understanding a pattern of work and approach through the selection process. Your thoughts? https://lnkd.in/gBBm8Qkk

A lot of jobseekers have been asking over the past few months about why the job market has gone cold again after the jump in hiring in April/May earlier this year. There's a lot of reasons for the slowdown over the summer, (on avg, 20-30% drop off in job postings), and why companies typically scale back hiring and have slower interview processes... ?? Holidays - probably the number one reason for delays in application feedback interviews being arranged, offers being passed on. Could be as simple as 1 person in the hiring team being off for a week and it can push things back for twice as long ????♂? ?? Strategic Planning: A lot of organisations will devise hiring plans that will involve hiring in bulk over more favourable time periods (e.g. February to May) and then spend the next few months focusing on onboarding/settling the new staff before returning to the job market for the next wave of new hires. Also gives hiring teams a chance to reassess their needs and any new priorities from projects that have been launched. Fortunately with a fall always comes a rise, so jobseekers can look forward to an increase in vacancies being posted over the next few months before the gradual slowdown before December. My main advice to the jobseekers/career-changers for the interim periods: network and upskil yourself wherever you can. The best way to give your job search that extra edge is to put yourself in front of as many people as possible (to find the right ones) and have something extra to give them in comparison to others ?? #TechHiring #HiringAdvice #Jobseeker

If someone has a number of short tenures on their CV over the past few years, should employers look past this and opt to interview the candidate? What do you think? In the ever-evolving landscape of talent acquisition, one question that often arises is whether candidates with short job moves on their CVs in the past three years should raise concerns for employers. With market challenges exacerbated by the pandemic and rapidly changing industry dynamics, it's crucial to consider both sides of the debate. On one hand, frequent job changes could be viewed as a red flag, signalling potential issues with commitment, performance, or fit within organisations. Employers invest significant resources in recruiting, onboarding, and training new hires, and high turnover can disrupt team dynamics and productivity. Additionally, some may question a candidate's ability to handle challenges or persevere through difficult situations if they consistently seek new opportunities after brief tenures. However, it's essential to acknowledge the broader context in which these short job moves occur. The past few years have been marked by unprecedented uncertainty and volatility, with industries facing disruptions, layoffs, and restructuring due to the pandemic and other economic factors. Many talented professionals have found themselves in positions where they needed to make quick career decisions to adapt to changing circumstances or pursue new opportunities that align better with their goals and values. Moreover, short job moves don't always reflect negatively on a candidate's capabilities or character. In some cases, individuals may have valid reasons for leaving their previous roles, such as seeking career growth, pursuing entrepreneurial ventures, or addressing personal circumstances. These experiences can offer valuable insights, skills, and perspectives that enrich their professional repertoire and make them valuable assets to potential employers. Ultimately, the decision to overlook or scrutinise short job moves should be based on a holistic evaluation of the candidate's qualifications, experiences, and potential contributions to the organisation. Employers should consider factors such as the candidate's track record of achievements, alignment with company culture and values, and the circumstances surrounding their job changes. As we navigate the complexities of talent acquisition in today's dynamic market, let's approach the issue of short job moves with nuance, empathy, and a focus on identifying the best talent to drive our organizations forward. What are your thoughts on this topic? Have you encountered similar situations in your hiring practices? Let's continue the conversation in the comments below. #TalentAcquisition #Recruitment #JobMarket #CareerTransitions #EmployerConcerns #HiringChallenges #ProfessionalDevelopment #LinkedInDiscussion ??
