I am beginning to wonder if I am the only person on this Earth who worries about the wisdom of such a Joint Venture. Are they assuming this eliminates hallucinations? Is this goal to produce a single LLM trained on all of the data provided by the JV telcos? And to expect the appropriate responses when operating exclusively in each of their environments? Would a telco not included in the JV be able to trust the capability of such an AI to work accurately on its operations? Global Telco AI Alliance (GTAA) – Deutsche Telekom, e&, Singtel, SK Telecom and SoftBank – have signed a joint venture (JV) agreement at the DTW24 event in Copenhagen. The move follows the announcement by the telcos during MWC24 that a JV was to be set up for the development of telco-specific large language models (LLMs). “As initially announced, the JV will see equal investments from the founding parties to support its initial working capital requirements to develop the telco LLM that [will] help telcos improve their customer interactions via digital assists and other innovative AI solutions,” noted the alliance members, without specifying the size of the planned investments. “The JV will look at deploying innovative AI applications tailored to the needs of the founding parties in their respective markets, enabling them to reach a global customer base of approximately 1.3 billion across 50 countries. The telco LLM will be multilingual, comprising Korean, English, German, Arabic, and Bahasa, among other languages.

Singapore Telecommunications Limited Singtel, Deutsche Telekom, e&, SK Telecom, and SoftBank Corp., the founding members of the Global Telco AI Alliance, have formed a JV to co-develop and implement a multilingual Telco Large Language Models. The founding parties' pledge to co-develop and launch multilingual Telco #LLM customised to telecoms firms' demands was announced by Singtel on Wednesday. The JV will receive equal investments from the founding parties to support its initial working capital needs to develop the Telco LLM, which will help telcos improve #customer interactions through digital assists and other innovative AI solutions. The JV will deploy novel AI applications suited to the founding parties' needs in their respective marketplaces to reach 1.3 billion customers in 50 countries. Korean, English, German, Arabic, and Bahasa will be among the Telco LLM's languages. Standard regulatory approvals are required for JV launch. The GTAA convened its second Global Telco AI Roundtable (GTAR) during TM Forum's DTW24-Ignite, confirming its commitment to telecoms innovation and collaboration. The GTAR emphasised GTAA advances and AI governance mechanisms and use cases changing telecom. In his inaugural remarks at GTAR, SKT CEO Ryu Young-sang stressed AI's potential to change the telecom industry. Ryu noted that the GTAA is well-positioned to participate in the global AI ecosystem since firms worldwide want to change their strategies using AI. He noted that the Telco LLM JV will provide new business opportunities and improve consumer experiences. Ryu underlined that the GTAA must build a strong AI governance framework to address AI's societal and environmental impacts while pursuing this goal. The opening address was followed by a panel discussion with Suk Geun SG Chung ???, Chief AI Global Officer, SKT; Harrison Lung, Group Chief Strategy Officer, e&; William Woo, Group Chief Information Officer and Group Chief Digital Officer, Singtel; and Jan Hofmann, Deutsche Telekom Top Programme Lead for AI. The panellists discussed GTAA's accomplishments and how AI may solve industry problems and provide new opportunities. The panellists discussed AI governance and the founding parties' Responsible #AI activities. The founding partners also demonstrated LLM use cases for telco call centres and #infrastructure. They showed how an AI-enabled LLM may improve contact centre operations by providing real-time agent references and automating post-call actions. They also showed how the model can answer infrastructure operators' questions, streamlining procedures. And now we’re taking this a step further with the Global Telco AI Alliance by setting up a Joint Venture to get things in motion. We’re happy to share that we’ve just signed a Joint Venture agreement at TM Forum's DTW - Ignite in Copenhagen to co-develop and launch multilingual Large Language Models (Telco LLM) specifically tailored to the needs of telecommunications companies.
