During the month of October, businesses and organizations across North County San Diego come together to help Scare Away Hunger by collecting jars of peanut butter for local children and families in need. The Carlsbad Chamber is proud to be a drop-off location all month long! Stop by with your favorite (no glass please) peanut butter anytime Monday-Friday, between 10am-4pm. Why Peanut Butter? Peanut butter is an excellent source of protein for children and families. It’s popular with kids, shelf-stable, and one jar can provide more than 12 sandwiches. Peanut butter is very expensive for the Food Bank to purchase. That’s why this year’s peanut butter food drive will be instrumental in helping stock the Food Bank’s shelves with this nutrient-rich superfood for local families in need. Who Benefits from the Donations? Did you know? 1 in 4 children faces food insecurity in San Diego County, including those living in North County communities. All donations will be distributed to North County families in need through the Food Bank’s direct food distributions and our nonprofit partners’ hunger relief programs. Can't make it? Donate peanut butter virtually: https://buff.ly/3zDxeAa

Today is World Food Day, so we'd like to take moment to highlight the importance of food security within our communities. Last year during our Vital Signs research, we found "Increasing Food Security" to be one of the emerging focus areas. In Saskatchewan, the cost of living is increasing, causing many families to sacrifice food choices for other basic needs like rent. As a result, food banks and other organizations are experiencing a rise in the usage of their services. This is why funds held at the Community Foundation like the Vital Community Fund and the Regina Food for Learning Legacy Fund are so important. They help to bridge this funding gap experienced by charities. Each Fall, I embark on my "Fundraising Frenzy" to support a local organization, matching donations along the way. Recent data from Feeding America’s Map the Meal Gap report shows that food insecurity has increased 30% across our service territory, meaning an additional 80,000 neighbors are newly food insecure. Within our 27-county service territory alone, nearly 350,000 neighbors, including 100,000 children face food insecurity. State-funded anti-hunger programs are critical investments that are required to enable the distribution of charitable food to millions of children, families, and seniors across Pennsylvania. Despite the level-funding of these core nutritional programs, CPFB will continue to advocate for our neighbors facing hunger. #nonprofit #foodbank #centralpafb

According to Feeding America, more than 44 million people in the U.S. — including 13 million children — are food insecure. The Feeding America network consists of food banks, pantries, meal programs, state associations, and the Feeding America national organization and works together alongside communities to end hunger in America. RSI and DOE Legacy Management contract teaming partners Amentum and TFE are contributing $300,000 to Feeding America to support nine communities adjacent to LM operations. The funds will support nearby food banks in the Feeding America Network. The communities receiving support from the donation include Monongalia and Preston counties, West Virginia; Pinellas County, Florida; Navajo and Coconino counties, Arizona; Grants, New Mexico; San Miguel County, New Mexico; Grand Junction, Colorado; Westminster, Colorado; Hamilton County, Ohio; and St. Charles County, Missouri. #FeedingAmerica

As you may know, our credit union participates in?Maine Credit Unions’ Campaign for Ending Hunger, a hunger relief initiative that helps ensure Mainers in our community and across our state have access to healthy, nutritious meals.?In 2023, the Campaign exceeded its $1 million fundraising goal by raising $1.2 million, a portion of which comes from the generous support of our credit union employees, volunteers, vendors, and members. This year, we hope to raise even more! This October, we are joining credit unions throughout Maine in a special fundraising effort—the fifth annual $100,000 Challenge. Collectively, we hope to raise at least $100,000 within the month, but we can’t do it without your help. Every dollar raised by the Campaign will support?Good Shepherd Food Bank and local food pantries. These organizations work hard to ensure people living right here in our community have access to sufficient nutritious food. New this year, the Campaign also will be raising money to support a?new?pilot backpack program for?Special Olympics Maine. This innovative initiative will help meet the needs of Special Olympics athletes who are facing food insecurity while also providing them an opportunity to give back to their communities. Please consider making a tax-deductible online donation to the Campaign before October 31. Your support will help ensure local Maine families get the food they need. Stop in to your local Connected Credit Union branch or donate online! ?? https://lnkd.in/gQkQrS2c Individual contributors will be listed on the Campaign’s website (with permission, unless they choose to remain anonymous), and businesses contributing more than $250 can have their logos featured on the Contributor’s page. No contribution is too small—even a donation of $1 can help provide two healthy meals to those in need.
