During her lifetime, Monuments Woman?Captain?Rose Valland tried to have her book?Le front de l’art?translated into English; however, the challenges of translation and distribution proved insurmountable. ?. “On May 6, 1966,?Le??Plon?[publishing house]?wrote to Rose Valland to inform her that sales of the ‘Front de l'art’ had become very low, leading them to sell off the last copies and scrap the stock to make room in the stores." (Emmanuelle Polack, Anne Liskenne, and Alain Prévet, "Heurs et malheurs du Front de l’art de 1961 à nos jours"?in Le front de l’art?(Paris: Réunion des musées nationaux, 2014), 28. . But she was determined. "Rose Valland set about distributing her book to English-speaking readers. She engaged in extensive correspondence to have her work translated, and contacted The Pergamon Press Limited in London. In November 1965, John Murray, to whom Pergamon had sent a copy of the book, regretted that they were unable to resolve the difficulties of translation and distribution on the British market.” (Ibid, 29) ?. More than sixty years since her memoir?was?first published,?"The Art Front"?realizes Rose Valland’s dream. The book not only presents the first English translation of her text, but it also contextualizes it—enriching it with photographs, maps, a glossary and other appendix material, and correcting factual inaccuracies. ?. Three and a half years of work and hundreds of hours of our team’s combined effort—spanning from President Anna Bottinelli to Senior Provenance Researcher Casey Shelton, from the Foundation’s military historian Dr. Seth Givens to its European Senior Researcher Dorothee Schneider—along with Robert Edsel’s invaluable expertise and mastery of the subject, as well as the French language support of art historian Ophélie Jouan, brought this project to completion. ?. ??? Volume 2 of Our Rialto Square Theatre Terrazzo Restoration Project is Now Live! ???? We're excited to share the progress in Volume 2 of our Rialto Square Theatre Terrazzo Restoration series! In this episode, we take you through the next critical phase of the restoration process. After completing the initial grinding of the historic terrazzo floors, we focused on filling in all the pinholes and small imperfections using a specially mixed resin. This step is vital for ensuring a smooth, even surface before moving on to the honing and polishing stages. Once the pinholes were filled, we removed the excess resin and began honing the terrazzo floor—taking it step-by-step from 200 grit to 3500 grit to refine and smooth the surface, preparing it for the final high-gloss polish. The honing process was incredibly satisfying, as each pass brought out more of the natural beauty of the terrazzo, gradually transforming these historic floors. In this series, we're not just showing you a transformation—we’re sharing the craftsmanship, dedication, and detail that goes into restoring a landmark like the Rialto Square Theatre. In spite of years of journey mapping, personas, and more, many organisations still lack a clear experience vision and framework. Like a great dance performance, the delivery of a unique customer experience requires continuous attention to every single detail. Every movement of the business.
