We're thrilled to announce that our Head of Product and one of our Managing Directors Christopher Homberg has joined the Board of Directors for Resilience New Orleans, a 501(c)(4) organization that advocates for an affordable, reliable, and resilient grid for the residents of New Orleans!!! Why he joined? "After moving here from Chicago and seeing firsthand the damage that can be done by tropical systems, it was immediately apparent that with each passing storm, our power grid was in a constant state of being rebuilt.?This significant, ongoing cost to rebuild not only brings out-of-pocket cost to all of us on the power grid, but also it puts us in a vicious, reactive cycle.?Without an investment to harden the grid to better handle the increase in frequency and intensity of storms, we will never break this cycle." As a software agency based in New Orleans, we are grateful to see one of our leaders fighting for sensible energy policies! #energyresilience #energypolicy #resilienceneworleans #gridneeds

Power outages during extreme weather events can be devastating—creating health risks from heat or cold-related injury, impaired night driving, and jeopardizing healthcare and other critical services. But imagine a future where people can stay safe, these services remain operational, and power is restored quickly and efficiently, even in the most severe conditions. This vision is becoming a reality as New Jersey uses creative strategies to build and reinforce power grid resilience. One of the keys to this is public-private partnerships, as seen by: ? New legislation designed to create microgrids that power public and private buildings, even during outages ? $12.8 million in federal funds to modernize the grid, protect critical facilities, and train workers for the future ? Increased investment in community solar program ?Interstate collaboration to improve grid reliability across the Northeast While there are still some hurdles to overcome, New Jersey is progressing toward a more reliable power grid. We're proud to be part of this important work.

It is unfortunate that utility companies, state, and federal governments are having so much trouble coming to an agreement on how to safeguard the grid; but at least they agree that the grid needs to be protected. Emergency response time is a huge concern for communities that face annual seasons of natural disasters like the California wildfires, Midwestern tornadoes, or Florida hurricanes. Any community can be hit by an unexpectedly bad storm -- and when the lights go out, you want to be sure they will come back on as soon as possible. I hope that lawmakers and utility providers continue to collaborate and reach an agreeable solution for consumers’ safety and peace of mind. #GridStability #EmergencyResponse #NaturalDisaster #FutureOfEnergy

Natural disasters are ever present. Understanding that our utilities are working to make the grid more reliable is our responsibility and it comes at a cost in rates. Support your local utilities and be knowledgeable. CenterPoint is working to earn back trust. CenterPoint Energy #utilities
The first phase of CenterPoint Energy’s Greater Houston Resiliency Initiative is focused on a series of immediate actions to improve resiliency, including installing more storm-resilient poles, trimming or removing higher-risk vegetation, and installing automated devices to reduce the number of storm-related outages. To help keep our customers informed, we are providing this update on our progress as we work to become the most resilient coastal grid in the country

Today we remember our fallen who have served our Nation. As a Nation we have been blessed with resources, but leadership from many areas are not utilizing these. Here is a Energy / Commentary by Diana Furchtgott-Roth, director of the Center for Energy, Climate, and Environment and the Herbert and Joyce Morgan Fellow in Energy and Environmental Policy at The Heritage Foundation. It is entitled: Houston Storm Reveals Downside of Forced Electrification. xxxxWhy is it that leadership in making rules, regulations and other arcane mandates don't have to follow logic and common sense. In engineering projects there has to be a mass and energy balance of the process resources to be used to make a product. The materials of construction considered, and their source, price, availability and lead time. Also you need utilities such a gas, electricity and others to provide the energy needed to carry out the process efficiently and profitably. As the author points out, you simply can't say that it will happen and that is what it will be...with little or no consequences. Houston has typified the path that they are on, and the consequences. The roaring irony is knowing that energy resources are all around in many areas, and not using them because of the "climate" .....Perhaps what is needed is to change the political climate, that being in leadership. Not just here, but globally. So let's get on with it.... ...."We live in a world with more and more devices that require charging. Nothing shows the downside of that better than the recent storm that hit Houston, where thousands of residents still lack power. Houstonians with electric stoves can’t cook, those with electric water heaters lack hot water—and those with electric cars can’t charge them. The range of an?electric vehicle?without electricity is zero.? But President?Joe Biden’s Environmental Protection Agency and Department of Transportation are requiring that, by 2032, 70% of new cars and 25% of new trucks sold will be electric......" READ ON, PRAY ON...STAND UNITED for FREEDOM, RIGHTS (as we Remember our fallen)...IN GOD WE TRUST!!...PROUDLY, STRONGLY!!....all over the WORLD>>>!!

Microgrids seem to be a very flexible and advantageous set up for groups of homes or businesses, grid connected or off-grid, giving stakeholders the ability to save money and increase energy security. But we don't hear much about them in the UK and Europe - is that because the grid is stable and reliable?
Why the Next Microgrids Will Be Well Connected

I wrote an article for The Conversation about public safety power shutoffs after what many of us in Colorado experienced recently. The article is written for a lay-person audience and attempts to explain why these happen, the challenges utilities face, and how essential it is to keep a clear, transparent line of communication between utility and customer during these events. https://lnkd.in/ed5R3gf7
